🌎Happy World Kindness Day from UMass Memorial Health Transplant Team!
Today we celebrate the small acts of compassion that make the biggest difference; holding a hand during uncertainty, answering a midnight call, advocating for a patient who can’t advocate for themselves, or saying “yes” to donation and giving someone else a second chance at life.🌍

In transplant, kindness isn’t just a moment.
It’s a culture. A promise. A shared purpose.

To every donor, every family, every caregiver, every coordinator, every surgeon, every nurse, and every community partner who chooses kindness even on the hardest days: thank you. You make second chances possible. 💙💚

Every kidney transplant starts with a generous act from a living or deceased donor and the commitment of an extraordinary team.
Dr. Anil Chandraker and Dr. Dheera Reddy recently joined Shrewsbury Media Connection to share why kidney donation matters, how living donors are protected and supported, and what outcomes patients can expect at UMass Memorial Health.

➡️ Watch the full conversation to see how compassion and science come together to save lives.

Such an important reminder. At UMass Memorial, we see firsthand how early awareness, education, and community engagement can change lives. 💚💙

October is both National Liver Awareness Month and Liver Cancer Awareness Month, and American Liver Foundation is here to support the 100 million Americans living with liver disease.

Throughout the month, we encourage everyone to take our quick quiz to check their risk for liver disease and liver cancer, try recipes from our 30-day liver-healthy meal plan, advocate virtually on Capitol Hill for liver health initiatives, and participate in free ALF educational + community events.

Let’s raise awareness, take action, and fight liver disease together. 💚💙

🌍💙🤍Today, on World Gratitude Day, our UMass Memorial Transplant Team joins our patients, recipients, donor families, and caregivers in honoring the extraordinary gift of life.

We are deeply grateful for the courage of donor families, the resilience of our patients, the dedication of caregivers, and the strength of our recipients who remind us every day of the power of hope. We also want to share gratitude to our dedicated transplant team, whose compassion and commitment make second chances possible.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us—for your generosity, compassion, and trust. Together, we continue to make second chances possible.💙🤍

💚💙 A huge thank you to the 22 team and family members who joined our UMass Transplant Organ-izers at this year’s Blue & Green Walk/5K at Polar Park!

This event is always fun, but more importantly, it’s a humbling reminder of why we do what we do. None of our work at UMass would be possible without the generosity of organ donors and their families. 💚💙

We’re already excited to start planning for 2026—hope to see even more of you there! 🙌

🌟💙 Transplant Myth Busters: What to Do While You’re Waiting 💚🌟

Myth #1: “I can’t do anything while I’m waiting for my transplant.”
💡 Truth: There’s actually a lot you can do to stay healthy and ready! Keep in contact with your coordinator and make sure you update us on ANY changes with where you live, support persons, insurances and medical changes.

Myth #2: “Exercise isn’t safe for me right now.”
💡 Truth: Gentle activity like walking or stretching (with your doctor’s okay) can keep your body strong and help with recovery later.

Myth #3: “My diet doesn’t really matter until after transplant.”
💡 Truth: Eating a balanced, kidney or liver friendly diet now helps you feel better and keeps you in the best shape for surgery.

Myth #4: “It’s no big deal if I miss a check-up or lab.”
💡 Truth: Staying on top of appointments and labs is key to staying active on the list and ready for that important phone call.

💚💙 While waiting can feel hard, remember, you are an important part of your own transplant journey. Every step you take now helps you heal stronger and faster later.
