On World Veterinary Day, we’re recognizing the depth and complexity behind the title “veterinarian.”

Veterinary medicine today spans Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Oncology, Cardiology, Neurology, and so much more. It requires clinical precision, continuous learning, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to patients who cannot speak for themselves.

To the veterinarians across MedVet and around the world: thank you for the expertise you bring to every patient’s journey, the leadership you provide to your teams, and the trust you build with pet families every day. Your work advances the profession and elevates the standard of care for animals everywhere.

Meet Dawn, an 8-month-old Orangetail Boa Constrictor with a curious streak. While exploring her enclosure, she became briefly stuck and suffered a cut along her neck, turning a routine moment into an emergency.

Her owner acted quickly and brought her to MedVet Austin, where Dr. Anna Gates and our ER team sedated her and performed a careful wound repair.

Dawn recovered smoothly and is now back home, ready to continue her adventures (with a little extra supervision!). 🐍

Even well-designed enclosures can have hidden risks. Checking regularly for tight spaces or sharp edges can help keep curious reptiles safe. 💚

As Veterinary Receptionist Week closes out, we’re proud to celebrate the Client Service Representatives who anchor the client experience across MedVet. 🐾

Michelle Tupulua, Client Services Clinical Supervisor at MedVet Mandeville, shares a look into her day and the leadership, coordination, and compassion that define the role. From supporting her team to guiding families through important moments in their pets’ care, Michelle represents the professionalism and heart our CSRs bring to work every day.

To all of our Client Service Representatives across MedVet, thank you for the empathy, resilience, and dedication you show to pets, families, and care teams alike. Your impact reaches far beyond the front desk, and we are grateful for all that you do.

A big milestone worth celebrating: Birdie is the first chemotherapy graduate at MedVet Phoenix with Oncologist Dr. Jordan Hampel! 🎉

After being diagnosed with lymphoma in December, Birdie began treatment in January using doxorubicin, a chemotherapy medication that works by targeting and slowing the growth of cancer cells. Through it all, she showed up with strength, resilience, and a whole lot of heart.

Recently, Birdie completed her treatment and is in complete remission. We couldn’t be more proud of this incredible girl and the journey she’s been on. 💛

Kilo, a lovable American Pocket Bully known for his head tilts and excitement for “walks” and “friends,” suddenly lost deep pain sensation in his back legs after being diagnosed with suspected intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), a condition where the cushioning discs between the spine rupture and press on the spinal cord. An MRI revealed four ruptured discs and internal bleeding, requiring emergency surgery at MedVet Vancouver.

Although his family was initially told he might never walk again, Kilo amazed everyone. Just two days after surgery, he walked into his kennel on his own: a huge milestone! 💪 With compassionate care from the entire MedVet Vancouver team, Kilo continues to make daily progress at home.

We’re so honored to have been part of this brave boy’s journey, and to help grant his family more joyful days with their sweet, resilient pup. 💙

As cannabis products become more widely available, it’s important for pet owners to understand the potential risks they pose to dogs. Accidental ingestion of cannabis in any form, including edibles, oils, or plant material, can lead to serious health concerns and may require emergency veterinary care.

If you suspect your dog has ingested cannabis, contact your veterinarian or an emergency hospital immediately. Awareness and proactive safety measures can make all the difference. Read more on our blog:

Dogs have more cannabinoid receptors in their brains than humans, making their exposure to ma*****na much more toxic.

During Veterinary Receptionist Week, we’re also taking time to recognize the many roles that support exceptional patient care, including our Client Service Representatives. 🐾

CSR’s from MedVet Mandeville and MedVet New Orleans share what it means to serve on the front lines of the client experience. From guiding families through emotional moments to coordinating communication between care teams, their work requires compassion, organization, and resilience every day.

Thank you to our CSRs, and to every team member who helps create a seamless, supportive experience for the pets and families we’re honored to serve.

Sadie was referred to Neurologist Dr. Mallory Clouse at MedVet Cleveland after showing signs of back pain and changes in how she used her back leg. During her exam, she had delayed conscious proprioception, meaning her ability to recognize where her paw was placed was slower than normal, a sign something was affecting her nerves.

An MRI revealed a rare tumor called a nephroblastoma, a growth that can develop near the spine and put pressure on the spinal cord. In Sadie’s case, that pressure was causing significant pain and affecting her movement.

Surgery was performed to remove the tumor and relieve the pressure on her spinal cord.

Today, Sadie is back home and doing what she loves—running around and playing at the park with her sister. 🐶
