The Peace of Wild Things
by
Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives might be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

This process happens over years...I think it's the part that's left out of all the books and makes people think that they are not doing it right.

Imagine realizing you can no longer play the games, wear the masks, or chase the things you once thought mattered. This isn’t depression, it’s awakening. In ...

Wendell Berry:
"...the correction must be love, and I mean the practical love-until-death of neighbors and country (I understand him to mean by country the land itself). Such love and nothing else could reverse the industrial process of separating everything from everything. Such love, even before it accomplished very much, could make us whole and free, with a wholeness and freedom that likewise would belong to us all. "

Jessica DeFino: "That’s what the standard of beauty is — a physical representation of the power hierarchy. Or put another way, beauty standards are the physical manifestations of systems of oppression. (Some examples: The fact that beauty is considered feminine is a manifestation of sexism. That beauty is associated with youth is a manifestation of ageism. That beauty is associated with thinness is a manifestation of fatphobia. That beauty is associated with health is a manifestation of ableism. That beauty is associated with wealth — see: quiet luxury and old money above — is a manifestation of classism.) The closer a woman is to the ideal, the more power she might have access to, in terms of financial, social, and political capital. Republican women see this, and adhere to it, in order to align themselves with power and protect themselves from (a certain amount of) discrimination. In doing so, they reinforce the very systems of discrimination they seek protection from."

TSH goes up, and T goes down

Our results suggest that an intermittent fasting program in which all calories are consumed in an 8-h window each day, in conjunction with resistance training, could improve some health-related biomarkers, decrease fat mass, and maintain muscle mass in resistance-trained males.

And, as a bonus, testosterone levels are reduced, and thyroid stimulating hormone goes up.

And, as a bonus, testosterone levels are reduced, and thyroid stimulating hormone goes up.

Intermittent fasting is a popular diet for weight loss, but concerns have been raised regarding the effects of fasting on the reproductive health of women and men. Accordingly, we conducted this literature review to clarify the effects of fasting on ...

Sharing my discoveries...as my journey continues on now to the unbrainwashing myself of IF, TRF, and low carb...

Article 1: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19776143/

Summary, after two weeks, metabolism drops so significantly, that if you don't reduce calories, you will gain weight!

Also, not listed in the conclusions (do they just assume the thyroid is involved?) are the numbers in the tables demonostrating reduced thyroid function numbers and other hormone markers.

IF does not affect whole-body glucose, lipid, or protein metabolism in healthy lean men despite changes in muscle phosphorylation of GSK and mTOR. The decrease in resting energy expenditure after IF indicates the possibility of an increase in weight during IF when caloric intake is not adjusted. Thi...

Day 3: Bees where bees are not supposed to be.
We've had our fair share of swarms this year! We like to catch swarms when they are near our apiaries but we often can't take time out of our day to drive throughout the community to catch swarms. Sometimes when you get there, they've already taken off! Swarming is a honey bee colony's natural means of reproduction. In the process of swarming, a single colony splits into two or more distinct colonies. In the Spring we try to split all of the large hives to prevent swarming.

“Lost in awe at the beauty around me, I must have slipped into a state of heightened awareness. It is hard – impossible really – to put into words the moment of truth that suddenly came upon me then. Even the mystics are unable to describe their brief flashes of spiritual ecstasy. It seemed to me, as I struggled afterward to recall the experience, the self was utterly absent: I and the chimpanzees, the earth and trees and air, seemed to merge, to become one with the spirit power of life itself. The air was filled with a feathered symphony, the evensong of birds. I heard new frequencies in their music and also in singing insects’ voices – notes so high and sweet I was amazed. Never had I been so intensely aware of the shape, the color of the individual leaves, the varied patterns of the veins that made each one unique. Scents were clear as well, easily identifiable: fermenting, overripe fruit; waterlogged earth; cold, wet bark; the damp odor of chimpanzee hair, and yes, my own too. And the aromatic scent of young, crushed leaves was almost overpowering.

That afternoon, it had been as though an unseen hand had drawn back a curtain and, for the briefest moment, I had seen through such a window. In a flash of “outsight” I had known timelessness and quiet ecstasy, sensed a truth of which mainstream science is merely a small fraction. And I knew that the revelation would be with me for the rest of my life, imperfectly remembered yet always within. A source of strength on which I could draw when life seemed harsh or cruel or desperate.”
