Exercising on an empty stomach affects women differently than men—and this becomes even more important during menopause.
Research shows that fasted morning workouts in menopausal women can increase stress hormones, reduce available energy, and contribute to muscle breakdown, leading to fatigue and poorer training adaptations.
Eating before a workout helps stabilize blood sugar, support energy availability, protect lean muscle, and improve overall performance and recovery.

Simple pre-workout breakfast ideas include:
🫐Greek yogurt with berries
🍌Banana with nut butter
🥣Oatmeal with protein powder or collagen
🥚Toast with eggs
🥤Smoothie with protein and carbs
or even a small snack like a protein bar or applesauce if appetite is low
—fueling first helps your body work with you, not against you, in midlife.

Just a few reasons to join us on Wednesday nights for our community pickleball league!

Social connection = real health boost 💬

Laughter + conversation + friendly competition = lower stress, better mood, and fewer “I should really get out more” moments.

Brain gains 🧠

Quick decisions, strategy, hand-eye coordination, and remembering who’s serving—your brain gets a workout too.

Agility & balance 🔄

Side-to-side movement, quick stops, and fast reactions help keep you nimble and confident on your feet (hello, fall prevention).

Heart health ❤️

It’s sneaky cardio—your heart rate climbs without feeling like “ugh, cardio.” Great for endurance and circulation.

Bone strength 🦴

Weight-bearing movement helps maintain bone density—especially important as we age (your future self says thank you).

Power without pressure 💥

Short bursts of movement build strength and power without beating up your joints.

Joint-friendly movement 🙌

Lower impact than running but still dynamic—great for knees, hips, and shoulders when played smart.

Mood booster 😄

Sunshine, movement, music playing nearby, and a little friendly trash talk = instant endorphins.

Confidence builder 🔥

Easy to learn, hard to master—which means quick wins, steady progress, and lots of “hey… I’m getting better!”

Consistency magic ✨

When exercise is FUN, you actually keep doing it. That’s where the real health benefits show!

Creatine is a naturally occurring compound (amino acid) stored in your cardiac and skeletal muscles and brain. It helps rapidly recycle ATP, your cells’ “quick energy” source—especially during high-intensity exercise and mentally demanding tasks. Women typically have lower baseline creatine stores (70-80% less) and often eat less (20-40% less) creatine-rich foods (meat, fish), so supplementation can be especially helpful.

If there’s one thing I want every woman to hear, it’s this: being proactive and preventative during perimenopause is far more powerful than being reactive later—but it’s never too late to start.

If you’re in your 30s or 40s, now is the time to get educated. Hormonal shifts don’t suddenly start at menopause—they begin years earlier, quietly influencing muscle mass, bone density, joint health, energy, and recovery. When we wait until symptoms are loud and disruptive, we’re often playing catch-up.

If you’re already in perimenopause or past menopause, please know this: you didn’t miss your window. Your body is incredibly adaptable, and meaningful improvements can happen at any stage with the right strategy.

One common complaint I hear is joint pain and achiness. While hormones play a role, a big contributor is the loss of muscle mass and muscle integrity that naturally occurs as estrogen declines. When muscles aren’t doing their job, the body relies more on connective tissues and joints—and that’s when discomfort shows up. The solution isn’t to avoid movement; it’s to build stronger, more intentional muscle contractions so muscles can support your joints the way they’re designed to.

So yes—when you hear me say “BUTT… BUTT… BUTT!” or “squeeze the quarter!”—I mean it. Those cues help activate and strengthen key muscle groups, improve stability, and ultimately reduce joint and connective tissue stress.

Nutrition matters just as much. Adequate protein intake is essential for maintaining and rebuilding muscle as we age. For some women, that means being more intentional with meals; for others, protein or collagen supplements can be a helpful tool to support muscle, connective tissue, and recovery.

The big picture: education, strength training, and targeted nutrition are not optional extras during this phase of life—they’re foundational. Whether you’re preparing for what’s ahead or navigating it right now, small, consistent actions can dramatically change how you feel in your body.

You deserve to feel strong, capable, and confident at every stage—and I’m here to help you do exactly that.

— Jeanette
