Last week I attended the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women: Black in Business orientation…
And let me just say this upfront—
It takes A LOT to impress me.
But babyyyy… they did that. 👏🏾
From the moment we arrived, every single detail was handled with excellence. Transportation, accommodations, food (and when I say ALL day… I mean ALL day 😅), guidance, support—there was literally someone pressing elevator buttons for us so we could just focus on being present.
That level of intention? Whew.
But what really moved me…
Was the room.
315 powerful, brilliant women.
Women building impactful businesses.
Women breaking barriers.
A woman with 43 Pizza Hut franchises.
A woman creating chemical-free nail polish.
And so many more doing incredible, meaningful work.
And then… there was me.
And here’s where I’m going to be real…
I walked in thinking I was doing my thing (and I am), but I also walked out realizing:
I’ve been operating as a founder… not a CEO.
There’s a difference.
A CEO is strategic.
A CEO is intentional.
A CEO is thinking about growth, positioning, and the future.
And me?
I’ve been in the day-to-day… keeping things running… making sure everything stays afloat.
And while that has created a successful business…
It’s also been keeping me from the next level.
Whew. That part right there humbled me.
But here’s the shift…
This experience didn’t make me feel small.
It made me aware.
Aware that I have more to learn.
Aware that I can do things differently.
Aware that I’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible.
And if I’m being completely transparent…
One of my biggest takeaways had nothing to do with business strategy.
It had everything to do with ME.
I don’t always see in myself what others clearly see in me.
Because things come naturally to me, I’ve minimized my gifts.
I’ve thought, “Anybody can do this.”
But that’s not true.
And being in that room…
Being affirmed by other women…
Having a professor highlight MY business…
I had to sit with this truth:
✨ I am a powerhouse.
✨ I am exceptional at what I do.
✨ And it’s time for me to stand in that—boldly.
No more playing small.
No more downplaying my greatness.
And let me say this…
If my business is already successful with me operating like THIS…
Imagine what’s about to happen when I step fully into my CEO role with the right tools, strategy, and mindset.
Yeah…
Unstoppable doesn’t even begin to cover it. 🚀
This is just the beginning.
