Two things can be true at the same time. As parents of a child with special needs, we live in that place every single day. Mark and I call this living in the “and.” 💛

• We adore our child and feel strain in our relationships.
• We are strong and still need help.
• We advocate fiercely and sometimes we cry in our car.
• We wouldn’t trade our child for the world and we grieve the life we imagined.
• We’re doing our best and some days feel impossible.

If you are a caregiver in this space, please know: your mixed emotions don’t make you ungrateful. Your exhaustion doesn’t cancel out your love. Your need for support doesn’t diminish your strength. That’s why places like David’s Refuge matter. Because here, the “and” is understood. It’s normalized. It’s honored.
