BYLER, JOSEPH W
DOVER-Joseph W Byler of Dover, Delaware passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. At the age of 99, Joe approached his final days unafraid and confident, his quick wit and humor remaining with him to the very end.

Joe was born on September 2, 1926 in Dover, Delaware to William A and Mary Ann (Yoder) Byler.

In 1945 he married Amanda Bontrager, and together they raised nine children. Driven by their faith, Joe and Amanda centered their lives around their family, their church, and their community. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Joe was an active participant at Maranatha Fellowship.

Joe worked as a building contractor, a trade through which he expressed both skill and creativity. His craftsmanship extended beyond business, as he helped lead building programs for Greenwood Mennonite School, Central Mennonite Church, Central Christian School, and Maranatha Fellowship. Joe found great joy in creative woodworking, often crafting special pieces for his children and grandchildren.

In 1974, Joe and Amanda founded Byler’s Store, which became a significant part of the West Dover community. He started selling wood stoves in 1978, and Byler’s Stove Shoppe was later established. He found joy in the retail business, establishing long-term relationships with vendors, customers, and employees.

Joe prioritized time with his family, enjoying fishing trips to the Delaware Bay and camping in the Blue Ridge mountains. He loved music, and he could often be found with a grin on his face, surrounded by children, an accordion on his knee. Joe made music a part of the legacy he passed on to his children. In his later years, he deeply appreciated being surrounded by family as they worshiped together.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Amanda, along with two daughters, Alta Nisly and Phyllis Maust; grandchildren Baby Lapp, Ericka Byler, and Stephen Christophel; sixteen older brothers and sisters; and one younger half-brother.

He is survived by his children: Ida Mae Lapp, Esther Bontrager Kurtz, Mary Ann (Kirk) Christophel, Erma (Paul) Yoder, Joseph (Naomi) Byler, Sharon (Harold) Kropf, and Lyndon (Jolene) Byler; a half-brother, Bennie Byler; 41 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Joe Byler will be remembered for his steady faith. His life bore witness to the grace of the Savior in whose presence he now rests.

Viewing will be Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Maranatha Fellowship Church, 60 Deer Track Lane, Dover, Delaware from 2-5 pm and 6-8 pm.

Service will be at 10:00 am Monday, April 27, 2026 at the Maranatha Fellowship Church. Burial will follow at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, Delaware.

KINARD, HARRY Q.
ODESSA-Harry Q. “Doc” Kinard, of Odessa, Delaware was born on January 18, 1953 in El Monte, CA. He was 73 years old. He was called Home on April 17, 2026 while sleeping peacefully at home. He was resilient, strong, and brave.

Dad was raised in Baker, LA, just outside of Baton Rouge. After high school he attended William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS where he earned a B.A. in physical education. He went on to serve his country, that he loved so much, in the U.S. Air Force and saw many states and countries along the way. He settled in many places, but Baton Rouge would always be “home”. He had a love and passion for sports, in which the military provided him with many opportunities to display his athleticism. He officiated high school and college sporting events, worked with P.A.L. as a boxing coach, and played minor league baseball for the Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Terrapins, and the Indianapolis Indians. Though baseball was his favorite of all sports, he also won the Golden Glove title in Louisiana (1972), in Mississippi (1973), and again in Arkansas (1976). He was no stranger to the golf course, an avid competitor in racquetball, and on any given “down day”, he would have a fishing pole quietly looking for the “big one”. He was the biggest fan of the LSU Tigers and told everyone he “bleeds purple and gold”.

Dad raised his daughters to the best of his ability. He taught us to bait a hook, as well as how to catch a butterfly with a net and the beauty of letting them go. He taught us to tie the perfect “double Windsor knot”, but also how to tie a bow on our Sunday dresses. He taught us that the world has so much more to see and learn from, so we should never be afraid to accept an opportunity to travel. Most importantly, he taught us respect, love for the Lord, and no matter what – take the opportunity to speak to others, because you never know who just needs a “hello” or a kind word in passing.

Daddy read his Bible frequently and knew almost every hymn there is. He loved to sing hymns and enjoyed the gospel music from his favorite singer, Elvis Presley. The last time he attended service was when he drove to Baton Rouge to visit his granddaughter, who herself, is now a member of his original church in Baton Rouge, First Baptist Church. He felt as though he were re-living his younger days and was blessed that his pastime was being re-lived through her. He was even remembered by some of the elders. He had many friends from many areas of his life; whether through his days of playing or coaching sports, from school, from church, or from his work, he was easily befriended, and carried those friends with him for many, many years. His closest companions in life though, would be those furry, four-legged pups whom he would turn into quite a softy. A puppy was his weakness, but any dog would have him change his voice and give ear rubs for as long as he could. He loved to feed animals or leave food for them to find later and watch in quiet amazement as the deer came cautiously to collect the goods. I suppose it was a hobby he loved once life settled down for him.

I would like to say thank you to Eden Hill Rehabilitation Center for their care over our father since late January. Their consistent efforts in his health and mobility, up until his discharge, have not gone unnoticed. Compassionate Care Hospice delivered the kindness and comfort that we needed Dad to have. Thank you.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Quillie E. Kinard, Wanda K. Kinard (Jesup,GA) and his biological mother, Norma Jean Saulisbury (Vidalia, GA). He is survived by his sisters Paula Woodcock and her spouse Leonard (Venice, FL), Kristi Kinard (Jesup, GA), his brother Klay Kinard and his spouse Sonia (Jesup, GA); two daughters Rebecca Collins and her spouse Dale (Milford) and Britainie Dill and her significant other John Raudenbush (Odessa); his son Micah C. Kinard (Lexington, KY); his step-son Thomas “Danny” Murphy and his spouse Sara (Denver, CO); son-in-law David W. Dill Sr. (Camden-Wyoming); his grandchildren: Kristina, Klay, Victoria, Gabby, David, Luke, Landon, and Nova; 12 great-grandchildren; and an endless amount of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.

A viewing will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Olive Cemetery, 389 Mt. Olive Cemetery Road, Felton, DE 19943 (Sandtown). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses. Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com

KAYE, BOBBIE ANN
WYOMING-Bobbie Ann Kaye, 77, of Wyoming, Delaware passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026. She was in the care of her loving daughters Christine and Amanda.

Born June 2, 1948, in Wilmington, Delaware to Robert and Alta Alexander, Bobbie grew up in New Castle alongside her siblings Diane, Greg, and Karen. Bobbie attended Del La Warr High School, where she especially loved her Friday art classes. After graduating, Bobbie began working as a secretary for David Kaye, who would become her husband and the father of her three children: Matthew, Christine, and Amanda.

Deeply passionate about what she believed to be right, Bobbie became active in politics, joining the Republican National Committee and Right to Life organizations. She was never afraid of a spirited debate and her convictions were rooted in her desire to see biblical values upheld in the world. She encouraged everyone she knew to “stay involved, or get involved, in your local politics,” believing strongly that communities thrive when their people take part in shaping them.

Bobbie was also exceptionally creative. She loved decorating, sewing, and crafting, whether making her own curtains or re-wallpapering a room five times until it felt just right. She created memories for her children through homemade birthday cakes, piñatas, original songs, hand‑sewn Halloween costumes, and the big family gatherings she loved to host.

Later in life, Bobbie discovered a deep love for movies, finding joy in discussing them with anyone who would listen.

As her children grew and moved out, she began a tenancy business in Delaware, renting rooms in her home. Many of her tenants stayed for decades, and Bobbie took pride in providing affordable housing and support to those who needed it.

Bobbie is survived by her children Matthew Kaye, Christine George (Shon), and Amanda Sinclair (Charles); her sister Karen Dimatta; and her grandchildren Alexa, Jayana, Zavia, Logan, Ava, Mackenzie, and Maddox.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Alta Alexander, her siblings Greg Alexander and Diane Walker, and her sons Daniel Kaye and Nathaniel Kaye.

Bobbie’s life was marked by passion, creativity, and love. Through every season of life, in both joys and challenges, we remain grateful for the love Bobbie accepted and the time we shared.
