HYATT, WILLIAM EDWARD
LEWES-William Edward “Bill” Hyatt, 76, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on February 18, 2026, surrounded by love and with his devoted wife by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Pedricktown, New Jersey, Bill was the son of the late Clarence Paris “CP” and Wilma E. (Knorr) Hyatt. He grew up in Pedricktown/Pennsville, New Jersey, where he attended Pennsville High School and quickly distinguished himself as a star athlete, excelling as both a starting quarterback and pitcher. He continued his athletic and academic pursuits at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University), graduating in 1972.

True to his nature, Bill was an incredibly humble man who never bragged about his accomplishments. Instead, he was known for his genuine warmth. He would not hesitate to engage anyone—regardless of their background or standing—in conversation, making even passing acquaintances feel valued and remembered.

This profound ability to connect with others translated perfectly into his life’s work. For 37 years, Bill was a beloved teacher, coach, and mentor at Washington Township High School in Sewell, New Jersey. He guided thousands of students and athletes, and even taught many young drivers how to safely navigate not just the roadways of New Jersey, but the journey of life itself. His extremely successful 37-year coaching career, combined with his exceptional contributions as a player in high school and college, culminated in a prestigious induction into the Salem County, NJ Sports Hall of Fame—an honor bestowed upon only 170 individuals since its inception.

As dedicated as he was to his students, Bill was an even better husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his loyal wife, Suzanne. She lovingly cared for him through his most difficult days and remained a steadfast presence until he made his journey to Heaven. Bill cherished his family above all else; he was always "there" for his loved ones, his friends, and his players.

Bill’s life was rich with adventure, travel, and simple pleasures. He treasured the time spent fishing with his son, Brad, on the Delaware Bay aboard his 17’ Boston Whaler out of Fortescue, NJ—a boat he often fondly regretted parting with. He was the ultimate travel partner and the best passenger one could ask for on a road trip. Together with his son, and his two dogs, he explored off the beaten path, visiting 46 states, mostly by car. He was always up for that “road trip” anytime the military called his son to a new assignment. He also loved taking cruise ship vacations with Suzanne and good friends to various beautiful locations around the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Closer to home, he enjoyed taking day trips “down the shore” to Wildwood Crest, NJ, in the summer and hitting the slopes for ski trips in the Poconos, PA and CO in the winter.

After moving to Lewes, Delaware, Bill became a dedicated and active member of his new community. He enjoyed volunteering his time at the Beebe Hospital Thrift Store and giving tours on the Lightship Overfalls, proudly sharing the history of one of only nine remaining preserved lightships in the United States. He also found profound joy in driving out onto the beach at Cape Henlopen to fish, relax, and build sandcastles with his beloved grandson, Bruce. A man of great taste when it came to comfort food, Bill was always ready for a meal at the Lobster House in Cape May, a classic Pancake House, or any authentic Jersey diner of any creed or color. An avid sports enthusiast, he spent his downtime watching ESPN recaps and cheering for his Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, wearing a memorable, knowing smile during the Eagles' 2018 and 2025 Super Bowl victories. He also fondly recalled the thrill of attending the Alabama-Vanderbilt game with his son in Tuscaloosa in 2006.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Hyatt of Catawba, NC and brother-in-laws Rick and Stuart Stephens.

He is survived and will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Suzanne (Stephens) Hyatt of Lewes, DE; his son, Brad Hyatt of Crownsville, MD; his cherished grandson, Bruce; his sister, Carolyn Peachy of Pennsville, NJ and his “adopted” son Michael Entrekin. He also leaves behind his niece, Erin (Hyatt) O’Dell of Hickory, NC, and his nephews, Jim Hyatt of Catawba, NC, Christopher Stephens, Port Orange, FL, and Michael Johnston of Pennsville, NJ, in addition to his trusted fur baby, Scoobie, who never left his side.

Bill leaves behind an enduring legacy of kindness, mentorship, and love that will be carried forward by his family, friends, and the countless students whose lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved. At his request, there will be no services.

Due to Bill’s love of animals, the family requests that donations be made in Bill’s memory to Brandywine SPCA at https://bvspca.org/ways-to-give or 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE, 19947

WRIGHT, LOUIS, Sr.
On February 7, 2026, our beloved father, Louis Wright Sr., transitioned peacefully at the age of 98, just three days after celebrating his 98th birthday.

Born on February 4, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Louis moved to Lakewood, New Jersey, at six months of age, where he would spend the rest of his remarkable life becoming a beloved fixture in his community. He lived a life marked by faith, strength, resilience, generosity, and service. To know him was to know steady wisdom, quiet strength, unwavering love, and a warm sense of humor that brought comfort to those around him.

A Believer in Christ, Louis's faith was the foundation of his life and guided him through his many years of service to others.

Louis attended Lakewood public school, graduating from high school in 1946. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict Era. He was drafted into the Army in the early 1950s and served with distinction during the Korean War, earning the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. His military service included October 25, 1950, to November 12, 1952, and December 24, 1953, to November 16, 1954. He carried the honor of his service with dignity throughout his life. Decades later, his belated Purple Heart ceremony garnered recognition in local newspapers, highlighting both his sacrifice and his advocacy for fellow veterans.

After his military service, Louis married the love of his life, Roxie Ann McKie, in 1955. Together they built a beautiful family and shared over 60 years of marriage until Roxie's passing in 2018. Their union was blessed with eight children, and their legacy continues through generations.

Louis dedicated 33 years of service to the Lakewood Housing Authority, demonstrating the same commitment to his community that defined his entire life. He served on the Board of Directors for Greenwood Cemetery for many years and was an active member of the Lakewood Elks, where he served as both bookkeeper and bartender, roles that reflected his trustworthiness and his gift for bringing people together.

A man of many talents, Louis was legendary in his family and community for his culinary skills, particularly his BBQ ribs and homemade sauce—a treasured recipe he kept close to his heart and took with him. His cooking brought joy to countless family gatherings and became a cherished tradition that will live on.

An avid sports lover, Louis was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He enjoyed starting his mornings with his coffee and his newspapers—The New York Post and The Daily News—keeping up with the latest news and sports. He could often be found cruising the aisles of ShopRite and Walmart on his scooter for hours, enjoying the simple pleasure of shopping at his own pace.

In the later part of his life, Louis lived for Thursdays and his weekly fried chicken at the Modern Maturity Community Center for seniors in Delaware—a highlight of his week that brought him great joy. He loved to travel on bus trips, particularly to the casinos in Atlantic City, where he enjoyed gaming and taking in shows.

He taught us the value of hard work, integrity, faith in God, forgiveness, and perseverance. He showed his love through honorable provision, faithful presence, wise advice, unforgettable BBQs, and a humor that could light up any room.

Louis was most proud of being a father to Jacqueline Karen Wright; Louis Wright Jr. (Linda); Mary Alma Wright-Dickens (Edward); Nishia Suevetta Wright; Ronald Timothy Wright Sr.; Morgarena Cheryl Crittenden (Ezra); Charmaine Bernadette Wright; and John Purnell Wright Sr. (Alicia).

He was also a cherished grandfather to 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and a beloved uncle and friend to a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Louis was predeceased by his beloved wife, Roxie Ann Wright, and seven of his siblings. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving brother, Morgan "Buster" Wright.

Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life well lived and a legacy that will continue through all who were blessed to know and love him.

A funeral service for Louis will take place on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 10:00am at Pippin Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior. A graveside for Louis will follow the funeral service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware.

Deacon Ronald’s favorite scripture was Proverbs 15:3: “[t]he eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Deacon Ronald was faithful in his work for the Lord until his illness.

Deacon Ronald liked to eat good food and thought himself to be a sweet potato pie expert. He had a special bond with his brothers and sisters being the baby boy (or as he would like to call himself the “youngest ” boy).
