Severe weather can impact services. Here’s what to prepare to stay safe and ready:
For Clients & Families
1. Plan for Care Needs:
- Identify a family member, friend, or neighbor who can assist if services are cancelled.
- Have medications, meals, and essential supplies ready for at least 24–48 hours.
2. Home Safety:
- Keep walkways, driveways, and entryways clear of snow and ice.
- Ensure flashlights, batteries, and blankets are accessible in case of power outages.
3. Communication:
- Keep your phone charged and accessible.
- Confirm emergency contact numbers and service updates.
For Care Providers
1. Home Preparations:
- Ensure your vehicle is winter-ready (full tank, de-icer, blankets, emergency kit).
- Have warm clothing, gloves, hats, and boots ready for travel.
- Charge your phone and have emergency contacts handy.
2. Work Readiness:
- Check the schedule and communicate with your supervisor if travel may be unsafe.
- Plan alternate routes if roads are blocked or icy.
3. Self-Care:
- Stock up on essentials at home (food, water, medicine) in case of severe weather.
- Keep a flashlight, batteries, and a first-aid kit accessible.
