Here are more photos from our grand opening celebration at the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program classroom in Hillsville on Feb. 12. Doesn't this look like a great classroom?

Kudos to our staff and the Carroll County Public Schools staff to make this a great space for kids!

02/12/2026

🥳Thank you to Caroll County Public Schools for partnering with us on opening a new behavior support program for children in Hillsville! The Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program will serve 15-20 children a week in a classroom setting.

Superintendent Dwayne Huff said the program is in a classroom his mother taught in. The school system is thrilled to start the program.
"We're grateful for the opportunity and the impact it's going to have on children," he said.

Mount Rogers Community Services CEO Sandy Bryant said we value the positive partnership and relationship with Carroll County Schools. "As one we can be stronger for kids that need our support," she said.

ABA is a scientific approach to behavior change which supports learners by providing a compassionate, function-based approach to replacing severe, challenging behavior with communication, tolerance, and contextually appropriate skills. This partnership will allow for seamless access to services for learners and a joint effort between professionals to maintain children in the least restrictive setting that best meets their needs.

(And yes, we're looking to sharpen our big ribbon-cutting scissors ... 😅. See, we've used them a lot. That's our excuse 😉.)

🚙Road trip! Wytheville -->Bland-->Marion 🚔
Thank you to our law enforcement partners in the Bland County Sheriff's Office, Wytheville County Sheriff's Office, Smyth County Sheriff's Office, Marion Police Department, and Chilhowie Police Department, and the 988 center in Johnson City, Tenn., for meeting with us about starting the state-mandated Marcus Alert System in our Mount Rogers Community Services region.

The Marcus Alert System helps people who are having a mental health, substance use, or developmental disability crisis. It makes sure 911 and local crisis call centers work together so the person can get help from trained behavioral health professionals. It also requires police to get special training so they can respond safely and appropriately to these situations.

We see this system as a benefit to people in crisis, our local communities, as well as our vital law enforcement partners. Thank you for all you do!
