We would really, really love to hire a payroll technician. So much so that we wrote a poem to them! (No judgment please ... we're clearly not poets but it's the thought behind it that counts. Right?)

Christmas cards and homemade muffins for our local public servants? Yes! Check out our Mount Rogers Community Services Day Services in action!

Recently Bruce Fleming, Trista Hamrick, and Antonio Vattilan, supported by our Day Services Direct Support Professional Yvonne Smith, brought Christmas cards and freshly made muffins to the Wytheville Police Department and Fire Department.

This opportunity supported independent living skills through cooking and food preparation. It also built social and communication skills through:
• Community interaction.
• Teamwork.
• Delivering the items.

Our Day Services program increases the quality of life for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We do this by teaching them skills to live the life they desire.

Our services focus on person-centered choices. All with the goal of meaningful community integration.

It is a place where people with disabilities are valued members of their community. And it’s all to fulfill the desired life – and life choices – of a person with a disability.

Two humans, two dogs, and two cats are ready to make you feel right at home—this Pulaski spot has heart and tail wags to spare.

Autumn & Nathan have a Sponsored Residential opening in their spacious Pulaski home—and they’d love to welcome someone ready to make it their own!

These two share their life with two friendly pups and two sweet cats, creating a warm and inviting home. Autumn is an experienced and passionate caregiver who provides support from home full-time, while Nathan is an attorney who works as a public defender. Together, they enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling, attending church, and getting involved in their community.

🛏️ The available upstairs bedroom is a blank slate, ready to decorate and personalize. It can be furnished or unfurnished, and the home features a big, fenced backyard perfect for relaxing with the pets.

📍Located in a quiet neighborhood just minutes from Claytor Lake, and everything the New River Valley has to offer—including Pulaski’s restaurants, shops, and even a minor league baseball team.

Be kind, be civil, and treat each other respectfully. Those were just a few of the takeaways when about 60 members of the staff and leadership teams at Mount Rogers Community Services recently attended an engaging continuous learning session on Civility and Harassment Training.

Led by human resources consultant Pam Pippin of Pippin Resource Group, the two-hour session was a fun, interactive way to expand our knowledge and professional tools.

Why do we do this? Our Chief Human Resources Officer Dedra Helbert says continuous learning is vital to the heartbeat of an organization. It helps us keep pace with an ever-changing professional landscape by supporting personal and professional growth opportunities like this one.

We also learn together and make us an employer of choice by being a more engaged workplace. Which helps with talent retention and strengthens our organization.

And we had some good laughs together. Another sign of a healthy, engaged workforce.

We recently celebrated breaking ground and starting construction on a quadplex in Wytheville that we're building in partnership with Open Door Community! These apartments will provide housing for adults in drug-treatment recovery.

The apartments are the third of four projects -- one in Marion and three in Wytheville. They will offer structure and support for adults in recovery. The unit is another step to address housing insecurity and integrate adults into local communities where they are employed and active citizens, said MRCS CEO Sandy Bryant.

A Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority (VOAA) grant provides funds for the project. Settlements from prescription opioid manufacturers and companies in the prescription opioid distribution network fund VOAA. The apartments will house four men who have successfully completed treatment and are in active recovery.

Contractor Andy Fowler, owner of Andy Fowler Residential Construction Inc., is building the complex. Each unit will have a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and space for washer and dryer. The units will open in spring 2026.

We are excited to see our Lock & Talk campaign highlighted by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services in an annual report! When a parent and teacher in Wythe County picked up one of our free medication lock boxes, she got proactive.

She shared our brochures and encouraged other families to secure their medications. Then parents and colleagues started talking about prevention, safety, and reducing su***de risk.

“By embedding initiatives like Lock & Talk into its broader prevention work, Mount Rogers is building a foundation of safety, care, and shared responsibility,” the state says.

(Thank you for the kind words, state of Virginia!) Learn more about our Lock & Talk program here: Prevention@mountrogers.org.

We ❤️ teddy bears! (But really ... whose idea was it to chuck a bigger-than-Brett-Wiseman Pokemon or dragon or whatever onto the ice? And just HOW did you do that?)

A huge thank you to the Blue Ridge Bobcats and their fans for donating all 1,152 stuffed animals to us after their annual “Teddy Bear Toss” on Dec. 13.

These stuffed animals will make a meaningful impact throughout the year:
• As Christmas gifts to children who might not otherwise receive one and throughout the year.
• Offering comfort to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Bringing reassurance and joy to our geriatric homes.

You all are amazing! 👏🙌👏🙌

🙌Let's start the week with kudos!🙌

Thank you to members of our CQI Team who earned $466.74 by volunteering to serve concessions at a Blue Ridge Bobcats game in November! Brittany Freund, Michele Nester, Laura Davis, Cassidy Sturgill, Savannah Cobo, and Alicia Pierson (left to right) donated the money to buy a little more than two months of supplies for “One Day at a Time” resources boxes. These are hygiene boxes for veterans and local people in need to promote health and wellness. Well done! 👏👏
