Massage Therapy. It has brought me a career of over 20 years. It all started with a massage ;)
Over 20 years ago I was working in Las Vegas, NV. I worked at a family owned casino as a cage cashier. A shift manager. It was on the strip, but was torn down years ago.
I also worked my dream job at Channel 8 news. I had gone into radio broadcasting in college and decided for several reasons that I would pursue television broadcasting. I loved it! Definitely an adrenaline job, crazy hours and I of course learned a lot 😉
A few years later I found out I was pregnant ❤️ As I was farther into my pregnancy I asked my 2 best friends if they wanted to come have a spa day with me in Mesquite, NV (outside of vegas). I still remember this day ❤️ we had massages and a facial scheduled. My massage therapist greeted me with a beautiful smile, had me get as comfortable as I could being 6 to 7 months pregnant 🤰. I was fascinated with her every move. When the massage was over I walked out of that session saying " I want to do that for people". My passion began ❤️ Knowing the healing powers of energy and massage on my pregnant body was absolutely amazing ❤️
I enrolled into Nevada School of Massage Therapy when my daughter was just 3 months old. Not to brag but at the time they called it the "Harvard" of Massage schools. It was a 9 month intense program. We had class from 8 to 5 sometimes 6 pm monday thru Friday. Then Saturday was youre internship day. Massage 4 to 5 clients and one of those is a professor, or teacher who will give you critiques. So by the time you finish the program you have massaged many bodies, and have developed youre own ;) We learned many modalties. Shiatsu, cranial sacral, reflexology, pregnancy ❤️, so many others. All before we graduate. See it was an amazing school 😉
I love my job!!!! To have this job you have to have compassion, empathy strength, self awareness, self care, gosh I could go on! The best part is I continue to learn. Not just because we have a small state license to withhold but because I love learning about the human body.
Sometimes this profession has been stereotyped. My own grandmother was shocked when I told her massage school. Her generation it was leary. Sometimes its serious matters and sometimes I myself make light of it. After all my favorite character Phoebe from 'Friends' was a massage therapist. Many good laughs!!! But all in all I have remained grounded in making sure my clients are educated and know how I stand in this world 🌎.
Next time you think about getting a massage ;) just remember its not just a massage with me ;) its my art and my passion. That goes for all professionals in our line. You will find we are all our own but we are all here to lend our hands and our bodies to bring you an experience of Massage ❤️
I cant count how many times Ive been asked how I got into massage therapy. I love telling how I got here!!! Im not the best with social media, but hey I finally got it done and told 😌🙌
