The legacy of Black midwives isn't just history. It's happening right now, in every prenatal visit, every birth, every postpartum check-in.

Margaret Charles Smith delivered over 3,000 babies during her 35-year career in rural Alabama and never lost a mother. Her hands built the foundation. Her heart shaped the care model. Her advocacy continues to drive change in maternal health equity. Today's midwives stand on her shoulders and the shoulders of countless other Black midwives, carrying forward a tradition of compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication to families.

This is the work. This is the legacy. This is what we honor every single day.
