Here are three tips to remember when treating wounds at long-term care facilities:

- As a rule, multiuse items such as scissors that enter a resident’s room must be cleaned with an antibacterial solution when leaving the resident’s room.

- No expired dressings are acceptable.

- Use a clean barrier in the room to place dressing supplies needed for the dressing change. Simple barriers include waxed paper, foam trays, aluminum foil sheets, or a commercially packaged dressing barrier.

Gentell has a long and proud history of involvement in the wound care industry. In the United States, Gentell CEO David Navazio worked tirelessly with the National Association for the Support of Long-Term Care and co-chaired the committee responsible for having the Health Care Financing Administration recognize advanced wound care products. The result was a Congressional change to the Medicare Coverage Policies (Section 2079) to recognize wound care and provide coverage for advanced wound care products.

Today, our membership in trade associations and industry groups helps “make it better” for patients around the world. We also support organizations close to our corporate headquarters in Yardley, PA, such as The Salvation Army, Rotary International, KB Foundation and others.

Many long-term care facilities have recently shifted from using honey in a tube to Gentell Manuka Honey Fiber Dressings and Honey Hydrogel Sheet Dressings. Gentell’s silicone dressings span multiple product families to provide clinicians with versatile solutions for a variety of wound types. Their gentle adhesion is essential to helping protect fragile skin; this is especially important in long term care.

- Gentell Silicone Bordered Gauze is a gentle, conformable primary or secondary dressing ideal for lightly to moderately draining wounds such as skin tears, minor surgical incisions, and superficial pressure injuries, offering atraumatic removal and secure fixation.

- Gentell Silicone Foam serves as a highly absorbent primary or secondary dressing for moderate to heavily exuding wounds including pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and partial-thickness burns, helping maintain a moist healing environment while protecting fragile periwound skin.

Gentell Comfortell™ Dressings are composite wound dressings with four distinct layers and a water-resistant border. Comfortell Dressings combine an absorbent layer with a selectively permeable barrier that enables the wound to breathe while keeping out contaminants. Last week, the Gentell Headquarters in Yardley, PA hosted 13 senior students and 2 faculty from the Health Care Department of Liguori Academy, a private nonprofit high school located in Philadelphia. David Navazio, CEO of Gentell, Inc., serves as a Trustee / Board Member of Liguori Academy and helps provide oversight and strategic guidance for the Academy’s leadership and mission. Towards that end, Gentell’s invitation provided the Liguori Academy students and teachers an opportunity to shake hands with members of Gentell’s Executive Team and other Gentell employees who shared their experiences and presented on business professionalism, wound care and learning and development. The students were engaged throughout each session and capitalized on their chance to get their most pressing questions answered. Each student was enrolled in Gentell University’s four-hour wound care certification course and will receive certificates and pins upon successful completion of the course and exam.
