Did you know that Gentell’s Hospice Wound Management Program provides patient-specific wound treatments that focus on the unique wound care needs of each hospice patient? We follow the recommendations of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP), Medicare and other insurance guidelines. Our program empowers hospice service providers to provide advanced wound care treatments while controlling costs and inventory for the hospice. There is no one-size-fits-all wound care dressing because every wound is different in cause, depth, drainage level, tissue type, location, and patient health status. Factors such as infection, circulation, moisture balance, pressure, and comorbidities mean a dressing that works well for one wound may be ineffective—or even harmful—for another. Effective wound care requires ongoing assessment and adjustment as the wound and patient condition change.

Foam dressings are no longer considered to be the gold standard for all wound care. Gentell Collagen Particles and Collagen dressings are composed of 100% bovine-derived Type I collagen that can be applied directly to the wound bed to offer these benefits:

This month Gentell is educating healthcare workers about scabs versus eschars. Here are some of the key takeaways:

- Scabs are superficial/partial-thickness wounds while eschars are full-thickness wounds.

- Scabs are part of normal superficial wound healing, while eschars indicate necrotic tissue often from severe injury or ischemia.

- Proper identification is critical to determine whether to protect the tissue (scabs and stable eschars) or intervene (unstable eschars) for optimal wound management.

Earlier this month, Gentell acquired Innovative Supply Group (ISG), a leading supplier of enteral nutrition and ostomy, urological and tracheostomy (OUT) products based in Lakewood, NJ. The operation will be integrated with Gentell’s existing enteral and OUTs businesses and go to market as Gentell Nutritional Services. The legacy ISG team will work in tandem with our current teams in Chicago and Little Rock.
