I got this heart warming review last week and had to share it with you all! I am feeling celebratory and proud of what I created but most of all in awe and gratitude for this community and my patients.

My vision of creating a safe space for patients to heal trauma and return to the safety of their bodies while using my intuition to guide us has not only become a reality but one that is reflected back to me over and over again by patients and referring providers. I am confident that this is the work I was always meant to find in this lifetime.

Thank you for sharing in the vision and being with me on this ride!

Love,
Emily

Unexpected inner child healing thanks to my mom:

My mom messaged me the other day after an emotional release that I experienced while on the phone with her…

I let it all spill out, it felt like every emotion rushed through my body and tears released freely. Finally an opening after being unable to release all weekend.

I’m so thankful for the space that she was able to hold for me to emote and move through the heaviness. I left the phone call feeling much more grounded and back in my body but honestly her message a few hours later was the most profoundly healing part:

"Knowing that you allowed yourself to feel your way through the emotions that you were experiencing makes me happy." -Mom

My whole body softened and tears of joy surfaced. These were the exact words that my inner child needed to hear. My emotions were not a burden, I am not a burden.

My inner child felt SEEN

My inner child felt SAFE

Are you a deep feeler too?

It can be so painfully beautiful to feel so much and I’ve been feeling deeply for so many years. At some point I began to believe that my emotions were “too much” yet I also felt “not enough” all at the same moment. I see this duality all the time in the clinic!

I’ve been learning how to love this depth that I hold. It’s part of what makes my practice and my medical intuition so powerful. It’s what makes my life so full!

Do you have inner child wounds that could use healing? Here’s what I see most commonly come up in the clinic:

"I AM TOO MUCH"
"I AM NOT ENOUGH"
"I AM NOT WORTHY OF LOVE"

Ready to start healing? Your words matter.

Can you share the following statements with yourself? How about with a loved one?

I SEE you

You are ENOUGH

Your EMOTIONS ARE BEAUTIFUL

You are WORTHY of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Are you a deep feeler? Comment below if you relate to my story!
Stay tuned on an upcoming online offering, inner child healing will be at the heart of this work! I can’t wait to share with you soon what I’m planning!

Love,
Emily

Our Grief circle is back!

I invite you to join Mara and I as we curate a community grief circle The Portland Yoga Project]

Grief…why focus on grief? Honestly the name grief circle sounds heavy probably because grief is heavy!

But I want to share with you how beautiful this circle was last year.

Having a safe container to share my grief created this unexpected lightness in me. To be heard and seen helped me to move the energy of grief from my body.

The biggest surprise of this group was the feeling of community and budding friendships! It still blows my mind that the heaviness of grief led to healing.

What to expect:

1. We start by sharing names and setting the intentions of the circle.

2. You get time to speak uninterrupted about what you are grieving.

3. We spend time honoring the themes of grief, sharing and validating what resonated with each other. This has helped me realize that I am not alone in my grief.

4. I led a meditation or a somatic based activity to help you acknowledge your grief, untangle your grief and offer tips to help you start moving through this heaviness. This exercise shifts every session depending on what the group needs.

5. Closing of the circle and space to connect with others if you feel called!

My biggest wish is that you leave feeling a sense of community with tips on how to move through some of your grief in hopes that this energy doesn’t get stuck or stagnant in the body, causing future pain or dysfunction.

DROP INS are welcome! Donations are suggested! Looking forward to seeing you there!

Thank you to The Portland Yoga Project] for allowing us to use your space, we are thrilled and full of gratitude!

PART 3: Healing the Psoas

Traditionally the psoas has been classified as a muscle but upon discovering and her work I’ve changed the way I view the psoas.

I stopped poking and prodding and started to listen. The psoas needs SAFETY to soften and lengthen.

How can we start to find safety within the body?

My favorite saying “In your bones, in your body” arose from treating the psoas in the clinic. When the body knows where it is in space (proprioception), knows how your bones land on the earth it has the ability to soften and relax.

Healing suggestions:

1. Ground yourself: walk barefoot outside, get in nature, imagine roots growing from your feet down into the earth. Or you can imagine creating a cord from your pelvic area down into the earth.

2. Curl up in the fetal position: try this in your bed visualizing your favorite spot in nature or better yet go lay outside if you can. Notice how you body and the bones of your body contact the earth, take time to feel your heels, pelvis, spine, ribs and head contact the earth. Notice how you are being held and supported by mother earth.

3. Tapping on your bones especially on the sternum repeating this mantra “I’m in my bones, I’m in my body”. I love using this technique for moving through big emotions to help me ground back into my body.

4. Take a bath, allow yourself to exhale.

5. PLAY, yes even as an adult! Playing is a way to nourish the nervous system.

6. A practice that makes you feel safe. Maybe it’s a movement, maybe it’s a song that always helps you feel a sense of calm (this is any Norah Jones song for me), maybe it’s an act of nourishment through self care.

As you practice the above suggestions and nourish the nervous system your ability to fully embody yourself increases and the psoas softens.

So let’s not focus on stretching, strengthening or dig in to release the psoas. Let’s focus on supporting the psoas and supporting ourselves.

See my two previous psoas post for more information about how to identify dysfunction and how this muscle can store trauma. I’m always here if you need help unwinding this muscle in the clinic 🤍

Identifying a Psoas Issue:

Running along the spine from the mid spine along the spine diving anteriorly into the front and inside of the thigh muscle, this muscle connects us from the heart space to the legs.

When the psoas muscle is juicy and lengthened WE CAN WALK FORWARD IN LIFE FROM OUR HEART SPACE.

I have discovered through this work and my research that the psoas is the messenger of the central nervous system.

Messaging fears, traumas, emotions, limiting beliefs things that we have not proceeded yet. This can date back to childhood or even a past life.

Even though this event has past the body remembers, THE BODY KEEPS SCORE.

These messages within the body can present as:

• Anxiety
• Disassociation
• An inability to ground
• Not feeling fully present in the body
• Lack of safety in the body
• Inability to fully org*sm
• Chronic tension and or pain at the mid back (bra strap area), in the front of the hip or running between the two

Did you know that the inability to fully or**sm can be hiding in the nervous system or tissue such as the psoas? When the body is frozen/holding tension, it is defending instead of thriving.

Your body needs to feel safe in order to thrive, to feel pleasure.

How can we heal this area to find calm in our nervous system and relaxation throughout our psoas muscles?

How can we find safety within our bodies?

How can we heal to find deeper layers of pleasure?

Tune into the next post for the tips on how to heal your psoas!

I spent the weekend loving on trees and rocks, while feeling the love of nature all around me.

I let myself PLAY.

The importance of play especially for adults gets quickly pushed aside in a busy life style.

Slowing down this weekend and allowing myself to explore was exactly what my soul needed.

Playing where’s Waldo with mushrooms, feeling the softness of moss under my finger tips, and rediscovering childhood locations through the eyes of my adult self brought me so much joy and presence in the now.

As I welcomed my inner child to come out and play, the giggles starting flowing. My voice felt safe enough to sing melodies, creating songs on a whim. The dance moves started to shake their way to the surface.

I see themes of grief everyday in the clinic. It shows up differently for everyone but typically I see it manifest in the body as a stagnation, a heaviness, a murky or dense energy. This heaviness tends to cause stagnation and physical symptoms within the body especially the pelvic area!

Shifting this energy opens up space to call in more joy, pleasure and vulnerability into your life. And in turn I watch physical symptoms and tension melt away!

Grief has a wide range from personal grief to ancestral/generational grief to community and collective grief. There are so many things to be grieving in our current world personally and together.

I’ve had my share of grief surfacing lately, seeking healing. Grief for the state of the world, grief for the lack of safety so many are feeling within their bodies and grief for those who have left this realm.

I co-created this monthly group to offer a container for you to share the grief that you are feeling in community.

I will lead us through a guided meditation to help you start transmuting the grief that you are feeling. Letting my intuition guide me, I envision every month will have a different approach to encourage movement of your grief with herbs, teas, movement, visualizations and exercises to weave through this circle to help you uncover deeper ways to access healing.

This community container opens TOMORROW (8/25) at the Barn at Windpointe in Freeport, ME. We will be running this group monthly on Thursdays, 6:30-8 pm. I would love to have you join us! The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29th.

Suggested donation of $5-10 to cover space rental.

Sometimes I daydream about a world with less grief. It feels light, people look brighter and there is more space to dance, laugh and sing.

She whispered to me, begging to be heard
In my unknowing the whispers turned to cries
When the pain of her cries turned to physical pain, the disconnection deepened

Unwinding the pain
Unraveling the stories
Releasing the heaviness

Despite the years of disconnect
The excitement of connection flowed,
The longing to be seen and heard

There is no judgment for my absence,
This feels like the embrace of the great mother
Warm and loving

Her wisdom starts to pour through me
A rich connection to my ancestors and all the women that have walked before
A meeting place for the female collective to run through me

This expansion knows no bounds
Her whispers always guiding me
This fertile space ripe for creation

This wisdom paves the way for release
In the release there is space for pleasure
The pleasure welcomes me to my sovereignty

She has led me home

✨✨✨

The call keeps getting more and more intense. The call to bring women back to their bodies, back to safety within their bodies, back to their inner power and back to their inner wisdom.

A depth of ancestral wisdom, inner knowing and powerful guidance lies in the heart of the pelvis in the warmth of the womb.

Teaching patients how to unravel the stories of shame, grief, fear, trauma and self abandonment to find the softness and the joy of the womb sitting beneath it all ready to share its wisdom has been my greatest honor to witness.

I will be sharing this healing work in a group setting for the first time outside of my clinic at the Remembrance Womb Wisdom Retreat on August 6-7th hosted in Durham, Maine Kelly Marie Benson]. I would love to weave this healing with you in person.

Head over to .holistics to sign up for this powerful collaboration with presentations by , , .holistics and Kelly Marie Benson].

Are you ready to heed the call?
