One of my favorite herbs to work with as a midwife is Calendula. It is a gentle wound-healer. It soothes rashes on the skin and tissues. Calendula can be added to facial toners, creams and salves, perineal sitz baths and yoni steams.

Sometimes, I recommend using a calendula infusion added to a peri bottle to rinse baby’s skin after diaper changes for skin showing signs of irritation from moisture and yeast (thrush).

Its golden color is a beauty to delight in during the grey, chilly days of January. It’s like bringing sunshine into your home! ✨

We all know that the Affordable Care Act is supposed to ensure that you receive lactation services with no out of pocket expense for you. However, many insurers have found creative ways to avoid this obligation, leaving parents to have to fight for their coverage…or give up. Some may actually forgo getting support because they don’t have faith their insurers will come through.

Thankfully, there are billing experts that have worked hard at “cracking the code” when it comes to insurance billing for lactation!

Another BLS for Healthcare Providers class coming up — this time hosted by the wonderful team at ✨✨✨✨

While this class will be geared towards lactation providers, if you are a healthcare provider who needs recertification, you are welcome to join!

I’ve been teaching BLS for 20 years now and have enjoyed working with physicians, nurses, midwives, dentists, and other health professions for this course. The class will have a small group so that you have focused support with someone who has experience with breaking down the steps and the science behind it to make it accessible and most importantly, memorable. We will also make time for lots of hands on practice so that you build muscle memory. Even if your brain is fuzzy in an emergency while hopped up on adrenaline, it is important that your hands KNOW what to do!

It’s such a joy to get back in the groove of teaching with the this year. I have been a BLS, First Aid, and CPR instructor with them for 20 years now! COVID threw me a little off of my rhythm but I am glad to say that I will offer BLS classes more regularly again.

While this is geared towards midwives, if you are a licensed provider who needs recertification, you are welcome to join. We will spend a little bit of our time discussing the current ECC guidelines for management of cardiac arrest in pregnant folks (which is terrible to think about, and yet so vital to be prepared) as this is not typically covered in BLS classes but relevant for midwives.
