Edward Neely Obituary
Mr. Edward Clarence Neely, 70, of 202 Blackburn Street, York SC transitioned from his earthly home on November 20 at Wayne T Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill SC surrounded by his immediate family. He was born on March 3, 1955 to the late Mozel Neely and Sarah Wilks Neely.
Clarence, as he was affectionately known, attended Jefferson High School in York SC. He was most recently employed at Wikoff Color Corporation, Fort Mill SC for over the past 15 years. Prior to that, he worked several manufacturing jobs at different locations.
Clarence loved to fish. It was his favorite thing to do. He would sometimes spend all day on the pond from sun up until sometimes after the sun went down. He was a great fisherman, who would catch many buckets of fish. He would often have cookouts to cook the fish he caught as he loved to see how much everyone enjoyed eating it. And it was always delicious. Not one piece would ever be left over. When he wasn’t fishing, he would be working in his yard. He took pride in how his yard looked and you could tell as it was always immaculate.
Clarence was loved by everyone, but would also give you the shirt off his back. He would help or give an encouraging word whether you were family, friend, or even a stranger. You couldn’t help but want to be around him and continue to be a part of his circle. Clarence was known for giving a nickname to everyone he would come into contact with. Even if you already had a nickname, you were called a different nickname by him. That is just how special he made everyone feel.
Clarence was a true family man who loved his family intensely but wanted it made known that he had a special place in his heart for his grandkids, nieces, nephews, and daughter in law Shaneca, whom he thought of as the daughter he never had.
Clarence was a long-time die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan (win or lose). If he wasn’t in work clothes, you would find him in his Cowboys gear with a Cowboy snapback hat turned to the back, blue jeans, and a fresh clean pair of white Converse Chuck Taylor’s. If you know you know!
Clarence was a very strong person. One of the strongest men you could have ever met. He was a fighter that never gave up on life and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones that he could. He fought HARD all the way up until he took his last breath.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Jason Good; a grandson, Geralle Mitchell; and one sister, Margaret (Jip) Neely.
Surviving to cherish fond memories is his life partner of over 45 years, Barbara J. Matthews of the home; two sons, Denyon (Scoot) Neely of the home, and his oldest son, Gerald Mitchell (Shaneca) of Rock Hill, SC. Four brothers, Charles Neely (Vanessa) of Jacksonville FL, James Neely (Marilyn) of Lesslie SC, Ronnie Neely (Sheila) of Clover SC, and Henry Neely (Pollyanna) of York SC; one sister, Christa Neely of Rock Hill SC: A special sister-in-law, Annie Massey Perry (Jerry) of York SC, and a special nephew and recent caregiver, Antwon Neely (Devery) of York SC: 8 grandchildren: Quontavious (Quon) Kennedy, Vintavious (Tay) Reid, Gertajuwon (Za) Mitchell, April Hayes, Clinasia Phillips, Ger’Kia (Kia/Pooh) Mitchell, Na'Kiyah Popowski and Shatara (Tara) Jones; 9 great grandchildren; a special brother-in-law, James (Lee) Mitchell of York, SC; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
