It’s time for our Little Ones to grab their stethoscopes and throw on their white coats because we are heading into Week 3 of our program, asking the question, “What is Alive?” Oh, and don’t worry, our friend Logan (of “Logan’s First Funeral” fame) is here this week to help even our youngest mourners understand the funeral experience. We love to show children and parents that even though it can be awkward to talk about loss. . .it doesn’t have to be scary! We can’t wait to see our adults on Zoom tonight!

Donated to our library by Companion Lauren Blanar in honor of her late best friend, Helen Kellock’s beautiful book “Out to Sea” is a poignant telling of the sadness that can overwhelm us after a loss. When a young girl names Lara loses her grandmother, she cries so hard it feels like she creates an entire ocean of her tears! But within the waters of her sadness lies a pearl – just like the one her grandmother gave to her many years ago. In this pearl, Lara sees that healing is possible within remembering and letting yourself feel.

The Grief and Loss Lending Library at Olivia’s House is a sight to behold! Each shelf is filled with the most unique, age-appropriate, and up-to-date resources, and it is our honor to share them with the community!

It’s time!!!!!!! (Using our best Mariah Carey voice!) Give Local York has officially kicked off, and Michelle and Julia were excited to attend the "Mystery Meet Up" last week. They were bused to a secret location where a press conference was held to share all the exciting happenings. will be held on April 30 - May 1 and we have some exciting plans. Stay tuned! 🩵💛

Olivia’s House is adding to our staff!

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting resumes for the position of Bereavement Specialist. We’re seeking a dynamic individual who has a master's degree in psychology, social work, child development, or the human services field and a passion for children's grief. If someone comes to mind, please share this post or encourage them to check the link below.

Together, we can continue to make sure no child ever need grieve alone. 💜

Last week, our team had the absolute joy of getting to visit the Milton Hershey School campus. Guided by Admissions Counselor Deb (whose passion for helping her students was as big as the campus!), K.C. and Julia got a complete inside look at the amazing services offered by Milton Hershey School. We are so lucky to have this resource right in our back yard. Thank you Milton Hershey for letting us visit!

Grieving during the holidays can be a tough task, so Olivia’s House is here to help you ease into the season! Each week, tune into our page for creative and unique suggestions on how to remember your special person during the holidays.

Sharing Memories: Get those photos out, and get people involved! You can set up a shared digital photo album and invite your closest circle to upload photos of their favorite holiday memories with your special person. On a tough day, you can revisit those shared memories and feel surrounded by the love of your support system.

A wonderful crew from York County District Attorney's Office picked an amazing day to volunteer at Olivia’s House! Last Saturday, this great group generously offered their time to help rake leaves in our Healing Garden of hope, helping to get us in shape before the cooler weather settles in. They raked and raked and raked some more, and we were beyond grateful to have their support! 😊

Last week, we were joined by our WONDERFUL new Little Ones families for our first virtual session. This week, “Safari Julia” guides us into our official first week of Virtual Little Ones, answering the question “What Does Dead Mean?” We will be right by our families’ sides as they process through any questions that popped up at home during the week. We look forward to lighting our ritual candles this evening as we begin the journey of education and healing with this courageous group!

Donated to our library by Companion Lauren Blanar in honor of her late best friend, “Sora’s Seashells” by Helena Ku Rhee is a touching children’s story about a young girl – Sora - and the special relationship she has with her Halmoni, or grandmother. Halmoni helps Sora embrace her South Korean heritage, even when the kids at school painfully make fun of Sora’s name. When Halmoni dies, Sora must learn how to find confidence in her own story, using memories of her grandmother to help her classmates understand where she is from and why that is so special!

The Women's Network of York's Shop for a Cause event returns this upcoming Saturday (November 15) at Wisehaven Event Center with over 30 local vendors, wine tasting from OneHope Wine, and tours of WellSpan’s Mobile Mammo. Most importantly, this event supports our “Take a Breath” program, which affords women who’ve lost a loved one the opportunity to slow down and take a moment for themselves.

Jim Kurtz lived life to the fullest and was a member of many civic groups in our community. After Jim’s sudden passing, his wife, Amy, and their friends in the riding community, came together to create the Jim Kurtz Memorial Ride. This past week, K.C. visited with Amy and company, and was presented with a donation of $1,300 to benefit Olivia’s House! Jim’s memory lives on as we continue to heal grieving hearts in his honor. ❤️

When one program at Olivia’s House ends, a new one begins! This week we are kicking things off with our Fall Virtual Little Ones program, and we can’t wait to start meeting with this new group of families. These packages are filled with all of the books, crafts, and healing activities that we will explore over the course of the next six weeks, and they’ve officially been shipped out. We’ll see everyone tonight!
