Honesty and integrity are not optional in the fields of mental health and addiction treatment — they are the foundation of the work we do.
Every day, professionals in this space are entrusted with people at their most vulnerable. Individuals and families rely on us to act ethically, protect confidentiality, and make decisions that prioritize care over profit or personal gain.
Because of that responsibility, ethical conduct matters just as much as clinical skill.
If someone has stolen from a previous employer or violated the ethical codes of multiple licensing bodies, it raises serious concerns about whether they should be trusted to work in environments that require the highest level of integrity. In this field, our credibility is everything. When ethical boundaries are crossed, the damage goes far beyond a workplace dispute — it undermines trust in systems designed to help people heal.
Organizations, unions, and treatment providers must be diligent in who they place in positions of responsibility. Transparency, accountability, and strong ethical standards protect not only the organizations we serve, but more importantly the individuals seeking help.
The mental health and addiction field does incredible work. But protecting its integrity requires the courage to hold the line on ethics — even when it’s uncomfortable.
Because in this work, trust isn’t just important.
IT IS EVERYTHING!
