The effects of narcissistic abuse don’t end when the relationship ends.
Because narcissistic abuse isn’t (typically) an outward form of abuse.
It seeps into your skin.
It invades your mind.
It mangles your emotions.
You’re changed from the inside, out.
This is why narcissistic abuse survivors feel “different.”
Because you may look the same on the outside…
But you’re not the same on the inside.
And even though you know this, it’s hard to explain it.
How do you put into simple terms that you feel like your sense of self has been stolen from you?
That you question everything?
That you no longer trust your own perceptions?
And because you’re always grappling with this on the inside…
It becomes very apparent those who “get it” and those who don’t.
It’s likely that those around you are confused about the relationship or don’t understand what happened.
Maybe they think it was just a disagreement or have been told lies or heard rumors spread by the narcissist.
So you’re dealing not only with the vast changes on the inside…
But also the lack of people’s understanding on the outside.
People expect you to “move on.”
“Be happy it’s over!”
“You’re free now!”
“Don’t you feel so much better?”
So if you’ve heard these statements, please know you’re not alone.
You’re not crazy.
You’re not different.
You’re a survivor.
And all of us here “get you!”
