Wondering why measles is such a big deal?
➡️ Measles is one of the most contagious infections we know of. If someone isn't vaccinated or immune and they're exposed, there's a 90% chance they will get measles.
➡️ About 1 in 5 people who get measles will be sick enough to go to the hospital. Serious complications can include pneumonia, encephalitis, pregnancy complications, and in rare cases, death. Measles can also wipe out your immune system's memory, making it harder for your body to fight off other infections.
➡️ For most people, measles isn't life-threatening. We take measles seriously because we're trying to protect the most vulnerable members of our community from getting sick. This includes children, infants who are too young to be vaccinated, and pregnant and immunocompromised people.
✅ Measles outbreaks are completely preventable. We have a safe, effective vaccine that prevents measles and has been in use for decades. Two doses of the MMR vaccine is about 97% effective at preventing measles (one dose about 93%).
Help us keep our community safe. Make sure your family is vaccinated. Get more info on our website (link in the comments).
