Hello former clients! I’m starting a postpartum fitness class and my business manager wants me to have a few testimonials for the website. If I gave you helpful rehab advice when I was caring for you as a midwife or doula or helped you work out a beginning postpartum exercise routine and you’d feel comfortable leaving a testimonial that I could use, please comment below or message me.
Thanks!

This is a fun new fitness class that I am teaching (along with a strength-focused stick mobility class other times of the week and a meditation class). I credit stick mobility for helping me to be a high-level athlete but this class is good for absolute beginners and people who are at all places on a fitness journey. It's fun and challenging and will help you move more powerfully through your life. You can try one class for free in the month of July by sending requesting a pass on the "contact us" section of the website: f3meditation.com. In Dearborn Heights, about 25 minutes from Ypsilanti. Share widely, please!

Happy .

The biggest credit of all goes to breastfeeding moms who work through all the challenges to breastfeed their babies in a world that doesn't want them to be great . High five to the dads and grandmas and friends and community members and adopted aunties who cook food, diaper and burp babies, wash pump parts, carry the diaper bag, and let the tired mamas sleep.

High five to some of my favorite black midwives, doulas, OBs, LCs, and childbirth educators. Some (just some!) of the ones that have touched my life are Arnetta C. Ford, Khadijah Bansfield, Melisa Scott, Cynthia Jackson, Heather Robinson, Jahmanna Selassie, and Jennifer Day. Shout out to Metro Detroit Midwives of Color, Black Mothers Breastfeeding, the WINnetwork, Focus Hope, Southeast Michigan IBCLCs of color. Go give them your money!

Both Shelly and Mercedes Reifsnider attended births on Friday, at the same moment, in two separate practices. And then they both took a little off-call time on Saturday to be great.

I think there's a model in midwifery training where the student is treated like a baby, like an idiot, like a servant, and maybe, if we're lucky, grows into a full human sometime right after being released into the world as a professional (but more likely ends up putting in even more time as a kind of little sister to the preceptor midwife). I've always prefered to hire students who had a full sense of self and came into the practice as capable people ready to add something bigger than what I could give to our clients. I like to think of them as full-grown, just that we learn from each other how to survive this life for a few years before gaining independence. Khadijah Bansfield is off working in a birth center in New England, and Sarah Lyons has already flown the nest to start her own practice. LOVE THEM.

Some of you know that I'm going to the USA Powerlifting nationals this weekend to compete as a masters' lifter. I wanted to share this post from Meghan Scanlon, who gave birth via c-section to twins less than two years ago and just won her class in the IPF Worlds powerlifting competition.

I'm still dealing with the impact of my own last birth and it reverberates into repetitive stress injuries, pelvic floor weakness, back pain, and asymmetry of the body as it compensates for what it went through. And here is Meghan showing that she's the strongest woman of her size in the world, scrapping her way to a comeback. Femmes are powerful.
