That may apply broadly, but it does not reflect the reality for BSN-prepared nurses in Michigan.

Hospitals across the state continue to have thousands of open RN positions. Demand is increasing due to an aging population and a retiring workforce, while nursing programs are limited by faculty and clinical placement capacity—not a lack of jobs.

This is not a saturated field. It is a workforce shortage.

For BSN graduates, the challenge is not finding a job. It is choosing where to start.

Huge congratulations to Aaquila Buffington-Sheppard on the successful defense of her DNP project! 🎓

Her work, "Implementing a Comprehensive STI Program among Homeless Young Adults Ages 18-24," is a powerful example of how Quality Improvement projects can change lives. It was wonderful to see so much love and support from her family, friends, and the EMU committee during this milestone.

Ben Hodge is an EMU 2025 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.

While at EMU, Ben served as a nursing mentor for incoming students and took organ lessons on campus.

After graduation, Ben plans to take his board exam and begin the next steps in his medical career.
