There is a reason we feel different as the seasons change â more energized, more restless, more inspired, or even more irritable. In Chinese medicine, each season carries its own energy, and when we align with it, we support both our physical and mental health in a more holistic, sustainable way.
Spring is governed by the Wood element â a time of growth, vision, and outward movement. Just like nature begins to unfurl and reach toward the light, our internal energy is asking for expansion. This is why you may feel a desire to move more, clear things out, start fresh, set goals, or redefine your direction. Itâs also why emotions like frustration or irritability can arise â not as problems, but as signals that something within you is ready to shift, grow, or be expressed.
When we ignore these seasonal cues, we can feel stuck, reactive, or disconnected. But when we align with them, we create space for that energy to move. Through practices like intentional movement, breath, time outside, reflection, and simplifying (organizing) our environment, we support the body in releasing stagnation and the mind in gaining clarity.
This is where mental health is deeply supported. Instead of forcing ourselves into routines that donât match the moment, we begin to work with our system â allowing for more ease, resilience, and direction.
Aligning with the season isnât about doing more.
Itâs about doing whatâs in tune.
Because when we move with nature, rather than against it,
we create the conditions for real, lasting growth.
