Fire doesn’t need much to take everything.

After the Skyline Fire in Yucca Valley burned 39 acres and destroyed multiple structures, the reality hit close to home for a lot of people.

Some properties made it. Some didn’t.
The difference? Preparation.

“Zone Zero” — the first 0–5 feet around your home — is where homes are won or lost. Clear it, maintain it, own it.

Out here, defensible space isn’t optional. It’s survival.

We’re out in the community every day offering free wildfire risk assessments because the goal is simple:
reach as many residents as possible before the next fire, not after.

Looks like the wind wanted a front row seat… and maybe to take the tents with it.
We’re rescheduling to May 9.
Weather may be unpredictable, but being prepared isn’t.

Unusual heat this March is a reminder that fire season can start earlier than we expect in the desert.

After a wet winter, vegetation is beginning to dry out. Combined with higher temperatures, this can quickly increase wildfire danger across our communities.

Please take extra care in the coming days.
Stay hydrated. Avoid sparks. Be fire aware.

Insurance non-renewals are hitting the Hi-Desert hard. But you’re not alone, and you have options.

This Saturday at Noon, Desert Region Fire Safe is hosting a community conversation at our Fire Prevention Office located in the MVFD East Station 2 to help homeowners understand what’s changing, what’s coming in 2026, and how to protect your home (and your wallet).

Local insurance professionals + Fire Safe leaders will break it all down and answer your questions live.
