The healthcare District is pleased to present the mobile medical unit (MMU). This “clinic on wheels” is the result of the Morongo Basin Healthcare District’s Board of Directors responding to the District’s Community Health Needs Assessment that identified access to healthcare and lack of viable transportation as two primary issues facing residents of the Morongo Basin.
The MMU provides primary medical care, health screenings and referrals to mental health services when visiting community centers in the more remote areas of the healthcare District. Additionally, the MMU has partnered with Morongo Unified School District to provide on-site dental screenings and oral care to students.
In partnership with Morongo Unified School District, the MMU was on-site at the Backpack Giveaway Event at the Joshua Tree Community Center to provide immunizations to students.
The public may tour the MMU at community events such as the annual health fairs in Yucca Valley and 29 Palms.
In 2018, the healthcare District proudly partnered with the Twentynine Palms Band of Mission Indians who generously supported this project with a commitment of $175,000 towards the total purchase cost of $375,000. Supplies and equipment are funded by the healthcare District.
