Keeping up with the pace of society and a seemingly endless list of things to do can feel overwhelming. Consistently residing in this space can cause our minds to become overactive and make us feel disconnected from our bodies, lacking a feeling of presence in the day-to-day.

If you experience this, we see you. Many of us here at Herbal Academy find that connecting with what is consistently present – the earth, flowers, and herbs - helps us to find our center. These rooted allies can help us to feel physiologically and energetically more grounded and connected to the present moment.

HERBS TO HELP US FEEL EMBODIED & PRESENT

✨DAMIANA – This relaxing nervine tones the central nervous system and can uplift & energize the spirit. By bringing blood flow to the pelvic region, it not only enhances our desire to be in our bodies, but grounds us into the seat of our life force- our creative center.

✨CARDAMOM – This warming carminative encourages our digestive fire which brings awareness to our gut, which then affects our mind. It can be supportive when our minds are heavy as it can help us see ourselves & our surroundings more clearly.

✨GINGER – This powerful warming root stimulates digestion, enhances circulation, and can help decrease inflammation. It can be a powerful ally when we need to release tension in the body & mind and embrace more flow.

✨CACAO – Nutritive and known to stimulate release of endorphins, this richly flavored herb can help to balance our mood, increase enthusiasm, and create a stable flow of vitality.

✨TULSI – This nervine and adaptogen is a beautiful ally when feeling unsteady & uncertain due to stress. It supports a healthy stress response by helping to balance hormonal cascades & brain chemistry.

Here's a sneak peek at what's coming up in my membership platform! If you want to become your family's herbalist, than learning with me is perfect for you!

Over the next two months we are taking a much closer look at two botanical allies, with Marshmallow root being one of them. In our Focus on Herbs classes we learn all about how to specific plants as medicine, how to identify them and even some traditional folklore surrounding the plant. Each student also gets a detailed PDF monograph that they can add to their ever-growing binder of information.

At the request of my community I am doing two demonstrations over the next two months as well. Together we will dive into herbal infused oil making as well as my process and procedure for pressing tinctures.

Are you interested in herbal first aid? I know my students are! So we're going to be learning all about that as well as a live demonstration on how to make a poultice with fresh herbs you have growing on your lawn.

If you are ready to become your home's herbalist, drop a comment below 😘

CANNING TIP
Happy Sandy's Kitchen - Sandy Lewis Howell

The is a picture of the 2 piece lids used on canning jars.

I thought I would take a few minutes and answer one of the questions I am frequently asked.

QUESTION:
Why Do You Remove the Rings/Bands?

ANSWER:

First - Rings/Bands are on during the canning process and are only removed after the canning process is done and the jars are sealed and cooled.

There are a few reasons why the rings/bands should be removed. The main one being... If you leave the rings on the and the lid (flat part) comes unsealed than you wouldn't notice and with the ring still on it might reseal - also without you noticing. The problem is that during the time it is unsealed bacteria can be introduced to your food and that can be a health risk. However, if the ring is off and you lose your seal you would be able to see it - and it wouldn't be able to reseal.

Also if you leave the rings on you could end up with rusted rings and getting them off could be very difficult.

And lastly if you leave the rings on, if there is any residue under the ring you could get mold on the jars.

The rings should Not be removed until the jars are sealed and completely cooled - usually around 24 hours. After the jars are sealed and cooled you remove the rings!

I hope this helps to answer the question.

In the picture the ring/band is on the left and the flat/lid is on the right.
