Congratulations Nassau County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)!

The Board of County Commissioners of Nassau County has proclaimed September 11-17 as Medical Reserve Corps week in Nassau County! 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the MRC, a national network of public health and medical volunteers established by President Bush in response to the 9/11 tragedy. MRC volunteers augment local public health, medical, and emergency services which are vital to all communities.

The Deputy Director, Martha Oberdorfer, of Nassau Emergency Management officially established Nassau County MRC in the early months of 2020, and it is the only MRC unit recognized nationally in all of NE Florida!

Nassau County MRC has provided more than 20,000 service hours of testing, contact tracing, and call-center service during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic response. They have also trained 245 citizens on hands-only CPR and 130 citizens on how to administer Narcan (a drug to treat narcotic overdose). MRC continues to host training events and help our community become more resilient!

They have been awarded $15,000 in grants to increase local emergency preparedness and implement a local lifesavers program to provide free public health education, opioid awareness, and lifesaving skills training for the whole community.

Thank you for all you do, MRC! Congratulations!
