We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Kaitlyn Walter, Family Medicine physician at Onvida Health, who has been named a 2026 recipient of the prestigious David C. Leach Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

This national award recognizes residents and fellows who champion innovation, foster humanism in medicine and lead meaningful improvements in medical education and patient care.

For our community, this recognition highlights the growing impact of graduate medical education at Onvida Health and our commitment to training the next generation of physicians right here in Yuma.

Dr. Walter shares this recognition with her dedicated team, including Dr. Matthew Bishop, Dr. Karen Melara-Hernandez and Dr. Rabab Raja. Their work strengthens medical education while reinforcing the connection between caregivers and patients, ensuring our community continues to benefit from highly trained physicians committed to compassionate, community-centered care.

Step into the world of healthcare through play! 🚑🩺

Onvida Health is proud to partner with the Children's Museum of Yuma County to bring a new interactive healthcare exhibit to our community. Made possible through the support and vision of the Onvida Health Board of Directors, this space was designed to inspire curiosity and learning through play.

This enhanced exhibit invites young visitors to explore what it means to care for others. With immersive, child-sized experiences including a mini CT machine, a newborn nursery and a clinic space with lab coats and medical tools, kids can step into the roles of doctors, nurses, EMTs and other healthcare professionals.

They can even climb into the ambulance and explore hands-on activities that highlight teamwork, compassion and the many ways caregivers help keep our community healthy.

We’re proud to welcome Brett Brazier, DO, to Onvida Health!

Dr. Brazier is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and joint preservation. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, MI, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAUSHEC) in San Antonio, TX and pursued an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Banner Sports Medicine in partnership with the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix, AZ.

His clinical interests include complex knee injuries and reconstruction, as well as hip preservation and reconstruction, helping patients return to activity safely and confidently.

Dr. Modi is board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. He earned his medical degree from Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara, India, and completed his internal medicine residency followed by a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, IL.

Yesterday, our Diabetes Education Committee was at the San Luis Senior Center offering free, real-time HbA1c diabetes testing to the community.

This initiative was pitched at Shark Tank during Innovation Week last November and funded by the Foundation of Onvida Health. With a $5,000 investment, the team launched portable HbA1c testing at community events, making immediate, free diabetes screening accessible to those who need it most.

Community members received free testing with immediate results, diabetes education, culturally sensitive counseling, and guidance on next steps and follow-up care. The HbA1c test measures average blood sugar levels over the past 2–3 months, helping detect diabetes early so individuals can take action sooner and improve their health outcomes.

We’re proud of our Diabetes Education Committee and thankful to the Foundation of Onvida Health for continuing to invest in the health of our community.

Dr. Rowland serves as a laborist at Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, WI, and completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ and Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL.

Dr. Rowland is committed to supporting families with compassionate care during labor and delivery.

It takes a great team to save a heart.❤️ This American Heart Month, we recognize the dedicated professionals behind every second that counts.

From EMS in the field to our Emergency Department staff and cardiac catheterization lab team, each member plays a crucial role in treating ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), one of the most serious types of heart attacks.

Their seamless coordination is measured by door-to-balloon time, this is the time from a patient’s arrival to the moment a blocked coronary artery is opened and blood flow is restored.

At Onvida Health, our average door-to-balloon time is around 60 minutes, well below the national guideline of 90 minutes. As the only hospital in Yuma County with an on-site cardiac cath lab, we can treat patients locally, without transfers or delays, giving them the best chance for a full recovery.

This is teamwork in action, powered by skill, dedication and a shared commitment to our community’s heart health.

Today we had the opportunity to visit the San Luis Senior Center to talk about heart health.🫀✨

Dr. Christian Torres, Interventional Cardiologist, shared important information on recognizing the warning signs of heart disease, managing blood pressure and cholesterol, and taking simple steps to protect your heart. From staying active to eating well and keeping up with regular check-ups, small habits can make a big difference.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and asked thoughtful questions. We’re proud to continue bringing heart education and prevention resources to our South County community.
