Ultra-Processed Foods Contribute to Liver Fat Build-Up.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition that occurs when fat accumulates in the liver from causes other than excessive alcohol consumption, and it is associated with several poor health outcomes. A systematic review and meta-analysis that included ten studies found that for every 10% increment that ultra-processed foods—food products that include added sugars, fats, and salt to enhance flavor and prolong shelf life—make up of an individual’s daily calorie intake, their risk for NAFLD rises by 6%.
