Since that time we have given more than $20 million to support the hospital and the services it provides to the South Lake Tahoe community. In addition to the direct support that we have given to the hospital the Foundation maintains multiple endowment accounts totaling more than $10 million to ensure for the future health of our community. Past projects and services that the Foundation has funded at Barton Health include:
• Healing Design and Art within the hospital
• Helipad
• The Family Birthing Center
• Patient Care & the remodel of the Barton Community Clinic
• Ledbetter Garden and Play Area
• Bereavement Camp for area youth
• Hospice training, equipment, and programs
• 30 new Stryker wheelchairs within the hospital
• Robert Maloff Center, housing Barton Orthopedics and Wellness
• and much more…

Funded by the Barton Health Foundation, Barton Health Foundation Community Grants were developed to provide funding to programs and organizations that benefit those communities that are underserved and/or can have the greatest impact on the health of our community at large. Over the past decade, the Barton Health Foundation has put over 1 million dollars into the community via partner non-profit programs and services. The Barton Health Foundation is governed by the Barton Board of Trustees representing a diverse mix of ages and expertise, all with the goal of providing for the current and future health of our community. Through the generosity of the Barton Health Foundation, Barton’s Population Health team has received 650 home blood pressure monitors—providing valuable tools to support patients.

Distributed during community events and drop-in clinics, these monitors have enhanced our ability to support patients with elevated blood pressure. Through ongoing monitoring and education, 77% of patients with initial readings of 140/90 or higher have shown improvements, reducing their blood pressure measurements and achieving better control of their chronic condition.

This gift from the Barton Health Foundation continues to strengthen our mission to improve community health and ensure patients receive the care and support they need—wherever they are.

In emergencies, every second counts — especially when it comes to vision.

Thanks to donor support, our Emergency Department now has the iCare IC200, a handheld device that quickly and gently measures eye pressure without the need for drops or dilation.

This means faster diagnoses, more comfortable care, and better outcomes for patients with eye injuries or conditions like glaucoma — right when they need it most.

Our Story

The Barton Foundation was founded in 1990 to raise funds for Barton Health. Since that time we have given more than $20 million to support the hospital and the services it provides to the South Lake Tahoe community. In addition to the direct support that we have given to the hospital the Foundation maintains multiple endowment accounts totaling more than $8 million to ensure for the future health of our community. Past projects and services that the Foundation has funded at Barton Health include: • Healing Design and Art within the hospital • Helipad • The Olson Family Playroom • Computer monitors and equipment in patient areas of the hospital • The Family Birthing Center • Patient Care & the remodel of the Barton Community Clinic • Ledbetter Garden and Play Area • Bereavement Camp for area youth • Hospice training, equipment, and programs • Free Mammograms for those who can’t afford them • and much more… Recently, the Foundation and the hospital have turned our sights on supporting the total health of the South Lake Tahoe community. Barton Health has formed a Community Health Advisory Committee whose focus is to identify and advise the Barton Board of Directors regarding unmet health needs within our community. This group of 20 locals representing education, fire, police, public utilities, the growing Latino population, public health, the medical community and both the Nevada and California communities come to a consensus on the most pressing health needs and then recommended area groups to receive the Barton Health Grants. Funded by the Barton Foundation, Barton Health Grants were developed to provide funding to programs and organizations that benefit those communities that are underserved and/or can have the greatest impact on the health of our community at large. Each year the Barton Foundation gives $50,000 to support this program. In addition, the Barton Foundation hosts a Philanthropy Day Luncheon which celebrates philanthropy in our community, an annual Gala that raises funds for a board-designated program, an annual golf tournament, and Pink Heavenly, an event that raises funds for Barton Health’s Cancer Support Services. The Barton Foundation is governed by the Barton Board of Trustees representing a diverse mix of ages and expertise, all with the goal of providing for the current and future health of our community.
