Alice Bishop had lived a quiet life in Quakertown for 40 years before moving to Frederick Living. But when she heard about a "Travel with Purpose" trip to Kenya, a seed was planted in her mind. Despite never having been that far from home, she ignored the idea that she "shouldn't" go because of her age and hopped on a 15-hour flight to Africa. From teaching crafts to children to seeing giraffes on a sunrise safari, Alice proves that the greatest adventures don't have an expiration date.

It's National Transit Employee Appreciation Day and while it's not a large operation at Frederick Living, our small but service-minded team does an excellent job of getting residents where they need to go.

Whether giving a lift to an event or meal, driving to a doctor's appointment, or delivering those all important packages, this team gets the job done. Thank you to Bruce, Russ, Suzanne, Tracy, Drew, Dave, and Rich and their team leader, Duana Helsel, Volunteer and Transportation Coordinator, for your hard work.

Frederick Living's group of talented quilters shares their work with the community with a regular monthly mini-exhibition in our Oaktree Center. Watch this presentation of the "Chandelier Quilt" display. This pattern, a simple design featuring diamond shapes, is very basic, yet with a variety of fabric designs, colors and each quilter's creative choices the results are stunning.

This week our community gathered for the closing ceremonies of the Frederick Living Winter Olympics. Residents and team members competed in 25 events including corn hole, shuffleboard, hatchet throwing, knitting, crafting, bicycling, photography and more!
Winners received gold medals in a ceremony that featured entertainment, jokes and milestone moments.

The entire Olympic program was designed to foster team member and resident interaction in recreational competition. Residents in all levels of care participated and received medals and many committed to practicing for the next round of competition as they seek that gold!
