I recently had the honor of presenting on IPF Talks with the Indiana Parkinson Foundation. My talk focused on understanding cognitive decline in Parkinson’s disease — an often overlooked part of living with and supporting someone with PD.

You can watch the full presentation here:
https://www.youtube.com/live/5umKtbaUboY?si=dO1NuuVNYMWxVxiW

In this talk, I share:
• What cognitive changes can look like in Parkinson’s disease
• Why these changes matter for daily life and caregiving
• Practical ways families and care partners can respond with clarity and compassion

I’m grateful to the Indiana Parkinson Foundation for creating space to have these conversations and raise awareness. 💙

If you or someone you know has been impacted by Parkinson’s, I hope this talk offers helpful perspective and encouragement. Please feel free to watch and share!

Yesterday was a meaningful day spent with incredible professionals and community leaders at the Dementia Friendly Indiana Communities State Conference. I had the honor of presenting highlights from my signature course, More Than Just Memory Loss: Understanding Executive Function and Dementia, and the positive and kind feedback I received truly made me smile.

To keep the momentum going, I’m opening up a special offer I shared with attendees:
Get 50% off my self-paced course this weekend only with code DFIC50 at checkout.

This course goes far beyond the basics I shared in my presentation, offering tools and insights to help you truly understand and support individuals living with dementia — especially those changes you can’t always see.

Offer expires Sunday at midnight. Let’s keep changing the dementia care space, together. 💙

💜 Today is National Caregiver Day, a day to recognize the incredible dedication, love, and resilience of those caring for others. If no one has told you today—you are appreciated.

Every month, I lead a free Daughterhood Circle focused on dementia-related topics, and recently, an attendee shared something that truly touched my heart. She told me that the communication strategies I shared last month were life-changing in how she now interacts with her loved one living with dementia. 💬✨

Her words reminded me why I do this work, and on a day dedicated to caregivers, I want to ensure even more care partners have access to this same resource that I shared during the circle. My FREE guide, Tools for Communication and Tackling Challenging Care Situations, is linked below.

The guide includes helpful tips for:
✔️ Understand the connection with executive function decline, normal aging, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and dementia

✔️ Understand sundowning and potential triggers.

✔️ Tackling communication with your person with dementia when things aren't making sense. Tips for responding to questions, such as, “Where is my mom?” or “I need to go home!"

✔️ Understand signs of agitation when your loved one can no longer communicate what is wrong through words - your own detective checklist.

✔️ Information about additional free resources that The Memory Compass provides, along with our courses and service offerings.

If you’re caring for someone with dementia, I hope this guide provides you with clarity, confidence, and practical strategies to make communication easier.

✨ Had an incredible 2 days at the Midwest Dementia Summit! I was honored to present, More Than Just Memory Loss: Understanding Executive Function and Dementia, a topic close to my heart, aiming to empower care partners and care professionals. It was so rewarding to connect, share resources, and see the inspiring work going on in dementia care.

🏡 Touring Milton House Adult Day Services was such a highlight! Innovative concepts like these make all the difference to families and communities. I wish we had one in !

💫 The summit opened up an opportunity for a night away with my CFO 😉, but my “glimmer” was coming home to a driveway full of my son’s Toy Story character masterpieces. Thank you Dr. JoAnn Burke for your amazing presentation on utilizing glimmers for human connection.

💙 In honor of National Family Caregiver Awareness Month, I’m offering a 60% discount on my course, the same one I presented at the summit but with tons of additional pro care tip content. This includes a guidebook, videos, and handouts. Comment “EMPOWER” for a link that will deliver the course registration and special discount code directly to your inbox!

Our Story

Hello! My name is Jessie Hillock and I am the owner and founder of The Memory Compass. Over the course of the past 6 years my passion for serving those affected by dementia, Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments has grown with each day through my work as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.

In 2016, I took on the role of Dementia Care Specialist after adapting and implementing a facility wide dementia staging program within a local skilled nursing facility. I was passionate about implementing a program to better serve the residents, their families and the professional staff regarding individualized communication strategies and activities appropriate based on the stage of the individual. Through this position, I have provided ongoing education and training to facility staff, extensive education to patients and their families, as well as held supervisory roles for other professionals and students.

Throughout the course of my career, I have had countless families and loved ones express to me their feeling that no one had ever taken the time to thoroughly explain to them the stages of the progression of these diseases, or to provide individualized communication approaches to maintain meaningful interactions, and to recommend meaningful treatment strategies prior to my interaction with them. Prior to establishing this position, numerous family members expressed to me that they had felt lost in the dark, prior to or following a loved one’s diagnosis, and had no idea that treatment by a speech-language pathologist was the professional support they had been seeking. I felt driven to create The Memory Compass to provide direction to families no matter where they are on this challenging road.
