The Freewheeling Life Group was established by me in early 2013. I have spinal cord injury (SCI) after a severe accident 4 years ago. After a long time of treatment and rehabilitation in the hospital and at home, I decided to move out and live independently. I was the first person in Da Nang who received support from Hanoi Independent Living Centre for peer counselling and Personal Assistant (PA). However, the PA system in Da Nang is not very effective.I rented a house in Hai Chau District, Da Nang and lived alone for the first month after moving out. I decided to let students to live in my house for free. They supported me when I needed and I became more independent in my life. I started some social activities such as teaching IT for a student with disabilities, English class for people with disabilities (PWDs) and volunteers, PA training, hosting tourists in Da Nang, and peer counseling for wheelchair-users. All activities are at my rented house and paid by the savings I had accumulated prior to my accident. After some months, My Group has become well-known in Da Nang, especially in some universities. More students come to Free Wheeling Life to share experience and study English.
