“Since reopening our NICU in May, a total of 86 babies have been treated on the phototherapy machine that Day One Health donated us in their Jaundice Program in West Africa.
We have three different types of phototherapy machines on the wards, but the staff prefers the Firefly Phototherapy most as it is very effective in clearing neonatal jaundice within a short period.
The overhead phototherapy is even more favoured by both staff and parents for use with preterms who we don’t usually wish to be moved.
Parents are of course very happy because they now have shorter hospitals stays as compared to before or when the hospital treat their babies on other machines.
All the machines are working very well with no major problems except that the basinet type can be uncomfortable for our very small preterm babies, so we reserve the firefly for the slightly bigger babies.
We extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the donors for their kind donation of these very high state of the art machines that are now saving more of our babies and reduced crowding in the ward as babies are discharged quickly giving room to take in more. Thank you!”
