Wolf Robe was the leader of the Cheyenne tribe. In his role as their leader, he earned the Benjamin Harrison Peace Medal in 1890 for his role in the Cherokee Commission. It was a committee of three people who worked together to legally buy land that was occupied by the Cherokee Nation and several other tribes in the Oklahoma Territory so that it may be used by non-indigenous people.
Wolf Robe was also one of the most respected individuals of the Cheyenne tribe, due to his ability to remain calm under extreme pressure, as well as protect the interests of his fellow people.

It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.

He was born on July 24, 1899, belonging to the Tsleil-Waututh (Salish) tribe, in a settlement near North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He became widely known for his acting career, especially in films portraying Indigenous characters.

She was fifteen when soldiers rode into the canyon, rifles glinting in the noon sun, orders in their pockets telling her people they no longer belonged on the land that had cradled them for centuries.
By sundown, they expected the Chiricahua Apache to be gone—marched, chained, relocated like cattle.
They did not expect **Nayeli Doshee**.
She was small, quiet, careful with her words—
the kind of girl who listened more than she spoke,
who could track a deer across bare stone,
who knew every hidden waterhole, every shadowed pass.
But the day the soldiers came, she stepped forward with a fire no one had seen before.
Her people called her *Little Wind* because she moved softly.
That day, she became a storm.

For more than 500 years, Indigenous peoples across the Americas have fought not for conquest, but for survival — for land, for dignity, for sovereignty, and for future generations.
From the northern plains to the Andes, from the Caribbean to the Great Lakes, these leaders stood against empires, armies, and systems designed to erase them.
They fought not because they hated what stood before them,
but because they loved what stood behind them —
their people, their ancestors, and the land that shaped them.
Among them were:
🪶 Crazy Horse – Lakota warrior who defended the Black Hills
🪶 Zapata – champion of land and freedom in Mexico
🪶 Geronimo – Apache strategist who resisted U.S. and Mexican forces for decades

That is the first history of Americans before it was America.
By the age of 10, most children in the United States have been taught all 50 states that make up the country. But centuries ago, the land that is now the United States was a very different place. Over 20 million Native Americans dispersed across over 1,000 distinct tribes, bands, and ethnic groups populated the territory.
History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from it. And if it offends you, even better. Because then you are less likely to repeat it. It’s not yours for you to erase or destroy.

In Cherokee culture, women held significant positions and enjoyed certain privileges and responsibilities.
Women in Cherokee society were considered equals to men and could earn the title of War Women. They had the right to participate in councils and make decisions alongside men. This equality sometimes led outsiders to make derogatory remarks, such as the accusation of a "petticoat government" by the Irish trader Adair.
Clan kinship was matrilineal among the Cherokee, meaning that family lineage and inheritance were traced through the mother's side. Children grew up in their mother's house, and maternal uncles held the role of teaching boys essential skills related to hunting, fishing, and tribal duties.
Women owned houses and their furnishings, and marriages were often negotiated. In the event of a divorce, a woman would simply place her spouse's belongings outside the house. Cherokee women had diverse responsibilities, including caring for children, cooking, tanning skins, weaving baskets, and cultivating fields. Men contributed to some household chores but primarily focused on hunting.
Cherokee girls learned various skills by observing and participating in their community. They learned story, dancing, and acquired knowledge about their heritage. Women were integral to the Cherokee society, and their roles played a central part in the community's functioning and adaptation to changing circumstances
