- Almost at the same time his best friend passed away; His girlfriend lost a child and soon died in a car accident, and his sister suffered from leukemia.
Keanu didn't fail: he donated $5 million to the clinic that treated his sister, refused to be filmed (to be with her), and founded the Leukemia Foundation, donating significant amounts from each fee for the movie.

For stray dogs, the idea of a “loving home” is not about decorations or gifts. It is about consistency. A warm place to sleep. Regular meals. Someone who notices when they are afraid, tired, or unwell. These basics are easy to take for granted, yet they are life changing for an animal who has gone without them.
Efforts to help stray animals extend far beyond adoption alone. Community spay and neuter programs, foster networks, winter shelter initiatives, and responsible pet ownership all play a role in reducing the number of dogs left outside in the first place. Actor Daniel Henney just helped rescue 67 dogs from a dog meat farm in South Korea. The farm had been running for nearly 40 years, and now every single dog is safe. Some were pregnant, injured, or malnourished, but they’re finally getting the care and love they deserve. Henney worked with Humane World for Animals and was right there on site helping load the dogs into transport crates. Keanu Reeves Opens His 50th Free Animal Rescue Sanctuary – Reaches $100 Million Spent, Everything Always Free
Keanu Reeves quietly opened “Arch Sanctuary #50,” the 50th free dog and cat rescue center he has paid for himself in the United States. With this new sanctuary, he has now spent more than $100 million on helping animals.
The new 200 acre center, near Austin, Texas, follows the same rule as all his other Arch Sanctuaries: medical care, food, training, and adoption are completely free, forever. No animal is ever turned away, and no one has to pay anything.
Speaking to the volunteers and the first rescued animals, the 61 year old actor said: “Fifty places where no dog or cat will ever be turned away, ever be charged, ever be alone. That’s all I wanted. Thank you for helping make it real.”
Reeves opened the first Arch Sanctuary in 2019 using his own money and his earnings from John Wick. Since then, he has opened about one sanctuary every month. Each one is fully funded, fully stocked, and will stay open forever. Every location has the same sign at the entrance: “Come as you are. Leave loved.”
