The price war between farmers and middlemen has been throughout history. Back in the day the number of middlemen kept the middlemen in check where price gouging was concerned. The challenges of logistics and market access made them a necessary part of the package in many cases.

Today there are not enough middlemen. The market is controlled by powerful monopolies that see farmers still being paid prices they were getting 30 years or more ago.

Logistics and market access have changed now. Some farmers are using the efficiencies of the internet to break these monopolies that have evolved. It will come back into balance. It will just take a bit of time and effort

It has been a very challenging almost two years for Samoa Coconut Cluster. We still have been unable to get an organic auditor in to certify both our factory and our farmers.
We hope the Samoan Government can look at this urgently on ways to create resilience to these types of situations by ensuring we can audit locally.
The current crises has lost the country millions in potential export orders.

Having a commercial size dryer gives one a few options. A sample of our first batch of breadfruit flour being assessed by the Scientific Research Organization of Samoa. Looking forward to getting this on the local market and further afield :)

Very interesting findings considering the times...
