Exactly one week ago, we were at Government Secondary School, Old Kutunku, Abuja for Pad a Girl 2.0.

A team of young students nurses came together to educate the girls on menstrual hygiene, proper pad usage and body confidence. Interestingly, these were very smart girls who already had some knowledge about menstrual care. We simply helped to correct a few beliefs and misconceptions they previously held.

We demonstrated how to correctly wear a sanitary pad, answered their questions openly and distributed sanitary pads to support them practically.

Have you ever heard someone say
“If you don’t give birth or breastfeed, you can have breast cancer”?
It’s not just a myth people made up to pressure women. This is what they meant when they said that.

Your breast is made up of cells that respond to hormones especially estrogen.
Every month during your menstrual cycle, a hormone called ESTROGEN stimulates breast cells to grow and prepare for possible pregnancy. When pregnancy doesn’t happen, those cells reduce again.

Now imagine this happening over and over again for many years.
The more menstrual cycles a woman has in her lifetime, the longer the breast tissue is exposed to estrogen. And long term exposure to estrogen increases the risk of abnormal cell growth which can lead to breast cancer.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding help to “rest” the breast tissue.
During pregnancy, ovulation stops, meaning estrogen levels reduce.
Breastfeeding also delays the return of ovulation for some time after delivery.

So in simple terms:
✅️ Women who have never given birth
✅️ Women who gave birth late
✅️ Women who did not breastfeed
May have a slightly higher risk of developing breast cancer compared to women who had children early and breastfed.

This does NOT mean that every woman who doesn’t give birth or breastfeed will develop breast cancer.
It only means the protective effect that pregnancy and breastfeeding give to the breast is absent.

Other factors like genetics, lifestyle, alcohol intake, obesity, and family history also play a role in a person developing breast cancer

Subtle remainder to drink water first thing in the morning.
When you wake up in the morning, your body is naturally a bit dehydrated.
Your mouth feels dry because saliva reduces while you sleep.
Start your day with a glass of water.
It helps stimulate bowel movement and keeps your digestive system moving
Small habits. Big difference.

Have you ever noticed that a wound starts itching when it is about to heal?

Many people think it means the wound is getting worse but that is not true.

As your body begins to repair the injured area, it releases certain chemicals (histamine) and new skin cells start forming. New nerve endings also begin to grow in that place.

This healing process can make the area feel itchy.

Itching is often a sign that your body is rebuilding the damaged tissue.

As tempting as it may be, scratching a healing wound can:
☑️Break the new skin that is forming
☑️Delay the healing process
☑️Introduce germs into the wound and cause infection
☑️Lead to scarring

If the itching becomes uncomfortable, gently clean the area and keep it covered if advised.

Healing is not always comfortable but itching can be a sign that your body is doing its job.

Have you ever scratched a healing wound before?

I know I have been off this space for a while now and I sincerely apologize for the silence. The past few months were quite demanding on my end as I had to focus fully on my exams and some important academic responsibilities.

Truth is, I am learning to be consistent. I am learning how to strike a balance between different areas of my life this new year, my academics, personal growth and showing up here to educate, share my lifestyle and also bring you along on my journey as a student. It has not been the easiest, but I am intentionally working on it.

So as I grow and learn, move with me. Thank you to everyone who checked in, engaged with my previous posts and still stayed here even when I wasn’t showing up consistently. I truly appreciate you.

Now that my exams are over, I am back and committed to sharing health education, my student experiences and everyday lifestyle moments with you.
Thank you for your patience with me 🤍

Still holding onto the energy from yesterday's 2025 international student day celebrations with the theme: Celebrating and Rewarding Academic Excellence a key to unlocking latent potentials for sustainable development.

The occasion was honored by respectable individuals including the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Education, the Minister of the Bank of Industries, the National Orientation Agency, the Chairman of G4EP, the Minister for Youth Development amongst others and their representatives.Their presence alone showed how much value is placed on students and the future we are building.

And truly, none of this would have come together without Hon. Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, whose effort made the event a reality.

One of the moments that really struck me was from Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of Finance.
She shared that academic excellence can lift you into spaces you never imagined. She said she is where she is today because she excelled first in her academics, then in her workplace, and now, with the help of God, she is excelling in politics. It was a simple reminder that excellence opens doors sometimes more doors than we expect.

Another message that stayed with me was from Dr. Mrs. Judith Mayen Ogabara, Chairman G4EP who reminded us that everyone in that room has potential, but that potential needs nurturing. Growth requires intention. It was simple but powerful. Excellence doesn’t just appear we grow into it by showing up, learning, and allowing ourselves to stretch

Yesterday wasn’t just a celebration. It was a reminder that academic excellence is one of the keys that unlocks our hidden abilities and helps us contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.

Students from various universities and secondary school across abuja who have distinguished themselves acdemically were also rewarded with cash prizes and laptops which one of them happens to be from my school too

Sharing some pictures from the event.
Grateful for the experience, and even more inspired to keep becoming.

The Night She Almost Gave Up And What Saved Her.

Last week, a woman was driven into the hospital around 10pm by her good samaritans.
She was bleeding. Weak. Scared.
Her voice was barely there: “Please… help me.”

Before anyone could ask for a card, a file, or payment, the nurse on duty rushed to her.
“Bring her in,” she said.
And the whole unit moved.
They stabilized her, controlled the bleeding, gave fluids… and saved her life.

When she finally opened her eyes, she said something I can’t forget:
“I THINK SAY THEM GO PURSUE ME BECAUSE I NO GET ANYTHING.”

That moment hit me deeply because I’ve worked in Accident and Emergency ward for a month during my clinical posting.
I’ve seen people come in with fear, confusion, or no money at all and they still get immediate treatment before anyone talk about money or paperwork like getting hospital cards.
And I have also heard stories of hospitals telling patients to pay first or bring a police report before attending to them.

Let me say this clearly:

👉 If a hospital tells you to pay first before attending to an emergency that is wrong.
👉 If they tell you to bring a police report before treating a life-threatening condition that is wrong.
👉 You have the right to emergency care first. Always.

It is very important that you know

✅️Your stabilization must come before documentation, before payment, before anything else.
✅️No hospital is allowed to deny you emergency treatment because of money

✅️ Someone out there may not know that they have the right to emergency care first before any payment.

And if anyone insists otherwise, do well to report them to the nearest authority immediately.
It could be the hospital management, the state ministry of health, or any regulatory body you can reach.

Emergency is emergency.
Bleeding, difficulty breathing, unconsciousness, severe pain you must be attended to first.

Someone out there may not know this right, and this information can save them.

Your life is not a bargaining chip.
It is your right.
And emergency care is part of that right.
