THE MOST COMMON HORMONAL IMBALANCE I SEE IN MY PRACTICE AND HOW TO START HEALING⁠

Without a doubt, the majority of women I work with have an oestrogen imbalance - and it's usually too much of that sh*t!⁠

WHAT CAUSES THIS?⁠

A whole bunch of reasons could be behind feeling crappy because your oestrogen is in overdrive. ⁠

Think; histamine intolerance, chronic gut issues, environmental toxins, anovulatory cycles (not ovulating), high alcohol consumption, diabetes, obesity, high levels of cortisol (aka you're stressed to f*ck), or poor diet.⁠

🌟 HOW DO I FIX IT?⁠

Something I always get women to do is look at their liver. It's often overlooked, but it's a hard-worker and needs some TLC.⁠

Think of it like a conveyor belt. If things start getting crowded on there, they fall off and wander places they shouldn't. ⁠

OTHER WAYS:⁠

✨ Reduce stress - if you're stressed, you produce too much cortisol. This stops you making enough progesterone to balance out the oestrogen. Kiera needs help keeping Mariah and Naomi in check, k?!⁠

✨ At least 7 hours of sleep a night and get into the habit of a TIGHT routine, e.g. blue light blockers, phones off, sound bath music, eye mask, etc. ⁠

✨ Make sure you're consuming enough fibre - aim for 25g a day, so your p**p schedule is regular to help remove any excess oestrogen⁠

✨ Supplements like a B-complex or Ashwaganda are great for boosting energy levels and reducing stress levels.⁠

Oh yeah, baby!! My next live class in two weeks time focusing on strengthening, moving + releasing tension and stifled energy in the hips, pelvis + lower back.

WHY TAKING CARE OF YOUR JOINTS WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE TO YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE:

There is this misconception that we should only start listening to and looking after our joints once we’re older. I’m here to tell you that’s bu****it.

Let’s be PREVENTATIVE! 👊🏻

OK, imagine your car right? You drive around in it every day and trust it to get you where you need to go. If it gets a puncture or a crack you get it serviced so you can get up and running again as soon as possible.

Well, just as the tread on your tires wear away and you have to get new ones, the cartilage that cushions your joints can break down too. But newsflash - you can’t buy yourself new joints (well maybe if you’re super rich and you go bionic but for most of us that’s not an option!)

Cartilage that’s become frayed can’t heal or grow back - and that’s when we start to develop problems like arthritis or become more likely to get injured.

It’s never too late to start taking care of your joints - you owe those bad boys for carrying you around and keeping you mobile. Even if you have a condition, like arthritis, you can strengthen and look after your joints to help slow down the damage + regain mobility.

Pilates is AMAZING for giving your joints some much-needed TLC. Why? Because it’s low impact. It doesn’t stress your joints or add burden to ligaments and cartilage that surround them.

But weight-bearing isn’t something you should be afraid of. In fact, during Pilates + Yoga, you’re utilising your own body-weight all the time! Why not incorporate light ankle weights into your flows to help build up the muscles to support your joints.

🚶🏽‍♀️Work on fixing your bad posture and alignment of the spine; it’s putting pressure on the joints in all the wrong places

💃🏼 Maintain a healthy weight that’s right for your body; your joints are only meant to carry a certain weight for your frame

🧘🏻 Frequent exercise that moves your body in all planes of movement + keeps you agile; inactivity can cause joints to become stiff

🧊 Drink a LOT of water and keep them hydrated; sugary drinks + alcohol can dehydrate you

🥬 Pay attention to eating the right foods; leafy greens, berries, almonds + olive oil are all fab for joint health

🙅🏿‍♀️ Try to quit smoking; it increases inflammation which can cause joint pain + changes the way the brain processes pain, meaning you will be less aware of how you’re feeling

As someone who struggles with a chronic illness, doing heavy cardio or HITT just didn't work for my body. It made me feel awful afterwards and I got stuck in an unhealthy cycle of working out one day, and it having such a bad impact on my body, I'd be crashed out flat for the rest of the week and end up binge eating to try and gain some energy. It was tough, and totally not worth it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My favourite type of classes to film, and take, are those that are tailored to hit one area of your body (or more) - especially arms. That's why I created this 20 minute abs and arms to bring the right level of burn into your day. It was just what I needed and made me feel strong and buzzed after.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every Mind to Core movement is full body and you should always be trying to keep your core engaged and active throughout, as well as full, deep, breaths from the belly that expand your ribs outwards. We move through all planes of movement in this class, as I always try to do, making sure we target all the tiny muscles in your shoulders.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Always keep your mind on the muscles you're using. Actively engage the triceps when squeezing back, for example, and you'll notice a bigger difference in your results. We have to bring energy into everything we do to see the best outcomes. Let's go!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
