I'm usually met with surprise when someone at the gym, who only knows me in the pilates/yoga world, finds me lifting weights, doing heavy things, and jumping around!
I guess they assume that my body shape comes solely from pilates.

The pilates marketing has fostered an image of slim, long legged, bouncy pony tailed people doing fancy Reformer things. Those classes probably won't re-composition you into that.
Turns out, I get my long arms and legs through genetics and my shape comes from years of mindful eating, lifting heavy things, setting and maintaing habits/routine, which have become my normal lifestyle.

Pilates and yoga are great though, and I love them... as a supplement to my other training! They remind my body how to move well, encouraging more range of motion, coordination, stability, muscle activation. And let's not forget that we need to have something in our routines we enjoy!

What pilates & yoga won't do, is build strength, increase/maintain muscle mass and bone density which become critical as we age. These decrease naturally with time, and faster in women than men, thanks to the mid life hormonal change. If we want to keep our independence later in life, it becomes important to continue doing the fundamental training to upkeep ourselves.

It's never too late to start!

Hope you're all set for a great last week of October!

As we near the end of year and everything's gets a little crazy, (it seems that November slips through our fingers like grains of sand) it becomes more important to look after ourselves.

Highly recommend if you have an interest in understanding the woman you are, the women you are living with, young women you are raising, women you are friends with.

Hiya, I’m Kim... Fitness Instructor and Remedial Massage Therapist.

I offer Remedial Massages at Peak 24 Fitness & PT in Richmond and from a private room in Blackwood. I am available at Richmond on Tues afternoons, Wednesday afternoons and evenings, Thursday mornings. I can massage from Blackwood on Monday and Friday afternoons. Bookings essential. I have health insurer provider numbers so you can claim a bit back (rebate depends on Insurer and level of cover)

I also run Yoga practices, Pilates sessions, BodyBalance classes and mindfulness sessions.
