At we have been studying consumerism and where our products come from. I was happy to share sticker/coloring books from with our Kindergarten and First Grade class! It is imperative to teach our youth about the importance of supporting local and about the variety of nutritious foods we grow in Hawai’i. Between 85% and 90% of the food eaten on Hawai’i Island now comes from imports while diet-related diseases are soaring, and the state allocates less than 1% of its budget to agriculture. Our goal in Hawai’i should be to support local and to educate others on eating healthy foods to live a healthier lifestyle.

supports local farmers as a pick-up location for , a CSA box that provides locally grown fruits and vegetables to community members. We also have our own garden and compost system. also offers a CSA box program called !

Living a healthy lifestyle includes eating healthy too! The past few weeks I’ve learned about the importance of eating nutritious foods and having a healthy diet with and the significant impact food has on our bodies.

Therefore, yesterday I stopped by The Food Basket, Inc.] to learn about their organization and pick up sticker books that teach us about how we can use the foods of Hawaiʻi to create nutritious meals. I look forward to passing these out to keiki at upcoming events! 🤍

If you are looking for a place to start eating healthy, the The Food Basket, Inc.] offers a community supported agriculture (CSA) program called , where you can sign up for fresh, delicious, locally grown produce while supporting the local farm community. Each week of produce consists of a minimum of seven items, generally one to two fruits and five to six vegetables. DA BOX was created to both support local farmers and to provide affordable access to fresh, Hawaiʻi Island grown produce.

Visit www.DABOXBigIsland.org for more info and to sign up!
