Today is National Doctors’ Day 💙

A day to say thank you to doctors and health professionals for the care they give every day.

At GenV, we’re lucky to be led by paediatricians (child doctors) who care deeply about children and families.

As Professor Melissa Wake, Scientific Director of GenV says:
“The early years matter so much. GenV helps us develop and test approaches that can make a real difference for children and families.”

And Professor Sharon Goldfeld, Deputy Director Gen V, reminds us:
“GenV is built on fairness and inclusion – so no child, parent or community is left out”

Thank you to all doctors for the work you do 💙

Culture connects us all.

Victoria is one of the most culturally diverse places in the world. Many families speak different languages and come from many cultures. This is what makes our community so special.

At GenV, we are proud to welcome families from all backgrounds.

Every family matters.

Because research can only help everyone if it includes everyone.

Families in GenV come from all across Victoria, including culturally and linguistically diverse communities. This helps us learn what supports children and families to be healthy and well.

As GenV parent, Meg said:

“I think why GenV is going to be so successful is because they’re pulling information from such diverse areas. Gender diversity, cultural diversity and location are going to play a big part in different environments.”

Culture connects us all – and together, we can build a healthier future for every child and family.

👉 If your child was born between 4 October 2021 and 3 October 2023, and you live in Victoria, you can join GenV at any time: www.genv.org.au/contact/

Together, let’s make this our healthiest generation ever.

Exciting news from GenV today!

A new GenV paper has been published, and it highlights the families who make GenV possible.

GenV now includes almost 50,000 children and 74,000 parents. Families from all backgrounds are taking part from across Victoria, including from regional and rural areas. Many of our GenV families also speak different languages and are from diverse cultures.

Every family matters.

Because research can only help everyone if it includes everyone.

As GenV parent, Tricia shared:

“When people are represented, they feel seen - and the research becomes more relevant and meaningful for everyone.”

GenV is designed to make research fair, simple and part of everyday life. It helps us learn what supports children and families to be healthy and well.

This paper shows that large, inclusive research is possible.

And it helps set a new standard for how research can work for families and communities.

International Women’s Day – Balance the Scales

Every woman and girl deserves to feel safe, heard and supported.

When women and girls are supported, families are stronger and communities grow healthier.

There is still more work to do. At GenV, we work with families to learn what helps children and parents stay healthy and thrive. Listening to women, girls and families helps us understand what matters most.

Today we celebrate the women across GenV. This includes our participants, team and supporters, who shape this work every day.

Together, let’s make this our healthiest generation ever.

GenV Monthly wrap up! As we start a new month and season, we wanted to share a couple of highlights from February.

In February, we focused on what matters most – people, science and community.

🌈 We joined the Midsumma Festival Pride March with our colleagues from Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and The Royal Children’s Hospital. Every family matters. When research includes all families and communities, it helps everyone.

🔬 We also marked the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We celebrated the women across GenV who bring care, skill and new ideas to their work each day. Their work helps improve health for children and parents, now and into the future.

📘 We also published a new working paper. This one featured how other studies involve children and young people in research. Working papers like this help GenV and other researchers improve how we do research.

GenV is built through community. Families choose to take part. They help us shape GenV, as well as the health and wellbeing of generations to come. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Happy New Year from the GenV team!

We’ve been settling back into the year and trying to keep cool during this hot Australian summer. This year, we are excited to share more updates with you and as always, hear from our GenV families.

This week, some of our eldest GenV children are starting school! A huge milestone. We wish them a joyful start, full of curiosity, learning and new friendships.

Thank you to our GenV parents and carers walking alongside them. You’re helping shape the years that matter most.

Over the coming years, schools will become even more important to GenV. We look forward to hearing about GenV kid’s school journey in the years to come!

For our GenV families - keeping your details up to date helps us stay connected for the years ahead. You can update your mobile/email/address anytime here - www.redcap.mcri.edu.au/surveys/?s=YPCHH4YCWYJNNPHK

What a big year for GenV!

Last week, our team celebrated all we did in 2025 – and thanked the thousands of people who made it happen.

A big thank you to the GenV kids, parents and families. You make every discovery possible! Whether you did an activity at home, told us your story, or joined a study, you’ve helped build one of Australia’s best tools to improve health for kids and adults.

We also thank our researchers, health partners, supporters and funders. Your hard work is helping GenV find better ways to stop, prevent and fix health problems.

We’re proud of what we’ve done together and excited for 2026! Next year we’ll share our Profile Paper, start the Early School Wave, and give researchers and leaders new ways to use GenV to help future generations.

Have a safe and happy summer break.

Five years ago, GenV took its first steps at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s at Sunshine Hospital (Western Health). Our first families are part of a special group called our Advance Cohort. They helped us in so many ways. They helped make GenV possible.

Our first GenV kids start turning five this month! We have a special new e-birthday card for this birthday and hope you enjoy it. Please make sure your email is up to date, so you don’t miss out! You can contact us at genv.org.au/contact to update your details.

We’d also like to thank Western Health again for your partnership to launch and your ongoing support for our ambitious project.

Together, we are making a difference to families everywhere.

Thanks to GenV families, researchers can look more closely at the foods babies and young children eat. It was only possible because of GenV.

More than 7,000 parents took part in a short special survey.

Because so many families are already part of GenV, studies like this can happen. So important questions about children’s health can be answered sooner. This is helping shape clearer food standards and better support for all kids.

You can read the story on our website - www.genv.org.au/blog/media-centre/better-food-for-every-child-how-genvs-data-is-helping-make-toddler-food-healthier/

Thank you to every GenV family for helping create a healthier future for children across Australia.

This Men’s Health Month we have shared how dads help shape GenV.

We recently spoke with GenV dad, Beau, father of Isla and Ruby. We asked him why understanding men’s and fathers’ wellbeing matters.

He told us:
“Men are less likely to seek medical attention and help. We are often shy to speak up and it’s important to recognise that and then seek help.”

GenV is one of the only large family cohort studies that includes dads.

Thank you to the more than 50,000 dads and sons taking part in GenV. Together, you help us understand what supports boys and men to thrive at every stage of life.

Dads – it’s not too late to join. If you live in Victoria and your child was born between 4 October 2021 and 3 October 2023, you can join GenV at any time. www.genv.org.au/contact

Did you know that going to a quality kinder or childcare can help kids stay healthy later in life?

New research - including GenV - shows that early learning doesn’t just help children do well at school. It can also help them grow up happier and healthier.

The research was published in the Medical Journal of Australia’s Future Healthy Countdown 2030, which brings together experts across Australia to find ways to give every child the best start in life.

GenV is proud to be part of this work - helping researchers understand how early learning and care shape health for children everywhere.

This Men’s Health Month, we celebrate the more than 50,000 men and boys who are part of GenV.

Together, we’re learning what helps men and boys live healthier, longer, happier lives - from childhood right through adulthood.

Dads don’t always have the chance to take part in family research. This is where GenV is different. By including all parents and guardians of a GenV child, we learn more about all families, but also parents themselves.

“Any time there is a research study, and you can sign up to help out, get a bigger sample size, and for benefit, that’s why we wanted to sign up.” - GenV Dad, Patrick on why they joined.

The more dads that join, the more we will understand men’s health. Dads - it’s not too late to join. You can join at www.genv.org.au/contact

Thank you again to all the GenV dads already taking part and helping us make this the healthiest generation ever.
