🎉 It’s OT Week 2025 – October 27 to November 2.

Theme: Occupational Therapy in Action!

This week we celebrate the work of occupational therapists (OTs) and their role in supporting people's independence, dignity, and participation across all stages of life.

But what is an OT?! 🤷🏻‍♂️ And how does Occupational Therapy relate to kids?! 🤷🏻‍♀️ The answer is in the word "Occupation". For children, their most important occupation is play!

Our Child and Family OT's help kids work out how to do the things they think are fun, such as playing with toys, colouring in or riding a bike. They might also help families learn how to support their children to play and learn.

Other ways OT’s support children are by developing a child's independence or supporting inclusion. This could mean helping kids develop the skills they need to...
✔️ look after themselves, such as getting dressed, preparing a snack, or having shower.
✔️perform everyday tasks, such as moving around at school, handwriting, organising school work, using scissors or catching a bus to school.

OT’s may also organise special equipment such as wheelchairs or a computer program to help with school work.

Our Child and Family OT team provide free service across a number of sites in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. For more details visit https://www.islhd.health.nsw.gov.au/services-clinics/kids-and-families
