Advocates weigh in on a new plan for ending violence against women. Australian women are being put at risk of serious harm. Now, a major plan years in the making aims to solve the insidious problem.

"Women With Disabilities Australia executive director Carolyn Frohmader says she’s willing to wait a little longer to get the framework right."

VALID is looking for people with lived experience of an intellectual disability for the role of a VALID8 Program Officer.

The role will involve:

• Helping services to make sure people with a disability have more choice and control in their home.
• Supporting services to have better ways of helping people with a disability to speak up about what is important to them.
• Talking to people with a disability about their service.
• Talking to staff about how they support people with a disability to speak up at their service.

The position is part-time, minimum 8 hours per fortnight and may include travel.

At Next Wave, we support participants to select a recovery coach with lived experience or a recovery coach with learned knowledge of psychosocial disability and mental health.

Our Recovery Coaches support people to:
-develop and support recovery-enabling relationships for participants
-support participants with their recovery planning
-coach participants to increase their recovery skills and personal capacity
-ensure that other supports are recovery-oriented
-support engagement with the NDIS
-assist with plan implementation

​Next Wave NDIS Recovery Coaches will work with a participant’s family, carers and relevant service providers to implement a recovery plan.
