BRODEN's VIEW🔰:
•Broden's view is a specialized X-ray technique for the calcaneus (heel bone) used to precisely evaluate the posterior facet of the subtalar joint, especially for assessing fractures, joint congruency, and surgical repair, by angling the X-ray beam at different degrees (e.g., 10°, 20°, 30°, 40°) with the foot internally rotated to visualize different parts of the joint...
•While CT scans offer superior detail, Broden's views remain crucial for intraoperative and post-operative
checks, showing step-offs or displacement in complex heel fractures..
POSITIONING🔰:
•Patient lies on their back (supine)...
•The affected foot and lower leg are internally rotated, often by 45 degrees...
•The foot rests on the image receptor (film/detector)...
• The X-ray beam is directed with varying cephalic tilt (angled upwards) to capture different joint segments:
10° tilt: Shows the most posterior part.
20° tilt: Shows the mid-superior part.
30º tilt: Shows the mid-lower part.
40° tilt: Shows the most anterior part of the posterior facet.
