Lately, the grey weather feels like it’s been going on forever, not to mention the relentless rain & mud! 😞
I’ve noticed it with clients too....people feeling flatter, foggier, more tired, or just a bit less resilient than usual, and wondering whether they’re just not coping very well.
Lack of sunshine really does affect how we feel and it’s not just about vitamin D.
Daylight plays a role in our body clock, sleep–wake rhythm, and even things like motivation and mood. When light levels are low for long stretches, it’s very common to notice changes in energy and sleep.
Vitamin D can be part of the picture, and supplementing over the winter months can be helpful for some people but it isn’t a magic fix, and more isn’t always better (very high doses taken long term can lead to toxicity). Testing levels and getting individual advice matters, so I recommend working with a practitioner to make sure you're getting a product that's appropriate for you.
Alongside that, small things can help:
• Getting outside earlier in the day
• A short walk in natural light (even the low levels we're experiencing at the moment can help)
• Or using a SAD lamp if that suits you
I’ll be talking more about energy and nutrition in one of my FREE talks at the Yorkshire Ladies Links Yorkshire Voices conference on 27th February. Read more here: https://www.yorkshireladieslinks.co.uk/post/exhibitor-session-meet-nutritionist-beth-hughes
DM me to book your spot (just 3 remaining).
I’m curious, have you noticed the grey weather affecting how you feel at all? Or do you know your vitamin D level?
