Many people never learn that there is a difference between being full of confidence and being full of yourself.
Confidence is a relationship that you build with yourself, where you learn to respect and improve upon your strengths and weaknesses. It is an understanding and trust in yourself and your abilities that is developed through the rigors of trial and error. Confidence thrives with feedback, both positive and negative. It feels solid and infinitely loving. It allows you to engage with reality and be associated in life while having perspective on your limitations and how you can contribute.
Ego, on the other hand, is based upon comparing yourself to others. It is easily inflated by praise and deflated by criticism. It can be volatile. It can make you feel fragile or invincible. It avoids trial and error out of fear of being proven wrong, fear of failure. It creates a false self to show the world and hides its flaws, while intensifying loneliness. It sees vulnerability as a weakness instead of a strength.
Don't be afraid to love yourself. Don't be afraid of confidence. We can always use more confidence. And we can certainly benefit from having more confident people in this world.
