4 key things I would NOT recommend as a sports therapist:
I would NOT recommend static stretching before a workout. I would instead advise to always choose a more dynamic warm up which enables you to move through all joint ranges of movement.
I would NOT recommend to stop moving or have complete rest after an injury. Relative rest/a decrease in activity can be helpful pending the extent of the injury to help with some tissue healing, but pain free movement as soon as is possible is absolutely key to a quicker recovery.
I would NOT recommend always rushing for an MRI after sustaining an injury unless you suspect a serious injury like a broken bone. Most general injuries can heal on their own following correct physical therapy, time and exercise prescription.
I would NOT recommend that people always rush to the medicine cabinet to reach for muscle relaxing ‘Pills’ post injury. Yes, sometimes anti-inflammatories may help to get you through initial pain but movement is the best form of medicine following an injury.
