Magical snowdrops is the article that just dropped on Sacred Living. Have you spotted them yet? 🌱

'Plants are magic. I really do not care who says otherwise, they’re just wrong ha! You are magic too of course! How miraculous is the body and how beautiful and dainty are snowdrops? ? There are so many similarities between plant structures and our body structures when you look into it, it always makes me feel connected to divinity and magic. For example, plants also have pores called stoma. Magical!

Snowdrops have been used in medicine for centuries. Hope, rebirth, and fertility are often words associated with them and they make sense as snowdrops are one of the first flowers to pop up in winter. But are those words associated with our hearts and intuition or more with logical thought and what others have come up with? It is much more interesting to lean into the magic of snowdrops yourself than taking what others say don’t you think? Of course the same things might come up, but there will be unexpected wisdom when you do the work.

Let’s lean into their plant spirit, example practise below!'

New article on Sacred Living! 🥰🕉️

'Yoga nidrā, translated as yogic sleep, is often referred to as deep relaxation or guided meditation but it is a different practice from relaxation and meditation. As with every yoga practice there are many descriptions, but it is your experience that truly counts. Yoga nidrā is the practice but it is also a state of being or consciousness.

Yoga nidrā in my words
An ancient practice that guides the practitioner into a conscious state between waking and sleeping. A practice where the body is fully supported and brought into a relaxed state, yet where we are very receptive and aware. This state of being allows body, mind, and spirit to process experiences, rest, and heal on a deep level.'

Practising yoga means thinking before you buy and making informed decisions. 🤔

So many companies claim to have yoga in mind but in reality have put zero though into ethics and sustainability. Honestly, it pi**es me off. The first limb of yoga is yama and consists of ahimsa - non-violence, aparigraha - nongreed -, satya - honesty, brahmacharya - direction of energy, asteya - nonstealing. Companies who truly have yoga practitioners in mind take all of that into account. ✨

Is the price fair or are you paying for a brand and logo? Are you investing in something that lasts and when it has lived its life, can it be returned to earth safely and responsibly? Are the people producing it treated well? Are the materials toxic or non toxic? Is that kind of information available, is the company transparent?

And lastly - do you really need it? For example, I use a tie or scarf instead of a strap. Do you need a new yoga mat or are you falling for marketing pretty prints?

Practising yoga means so much more than only showing up for a physical class. Choose wisely, your actions ripple and you have a duty of care towards your Self, others, and the planet. 🕉️🌏

We have been brainwashed by companies that winter has to be a time for ‘New year, new you’. Setting intentions, goals, resolutions, and going hard to achieve whatever it is. Healthy? Can be. It can also be damaging. How often have you set intentions and goals in January, only to realise when March arrives that they are a vague memory? How did that make you feel? 🤔

Nature asks us to rest in winter. Most plants are sending energy down to their roots - their foundation. Garden lovers often tend to the soil at this time by feeding it manure or adding other organic matter - letting it sink into the soil and letting it rest and feed. A lot of animals go into hibernation or migrate to warmer climates. Looking at nature’s wisdom - winter is a time to rest and adjust for most of us. 🪾

People are natural beings. Flowing with the seasons is essential to health and wellbeing, but it can be hard when work doesn’t slow down, responsibilities do not stop, and companies are launching marketing strategies to try and make us consume.

'Tending to Foundation' is an invitation to reflect on your core and foundations. To rest and make plans for adjustment - whether you want to adjust now or when energy returns in spring.
