Have you ever felt like you were losing yourself in a relationship?
Overthinking. Over-giving. Constantly needing reassurance. Feeling anxious when there’s distance.

Unhealthy attachment patterns are more common than we think — and they often come from deep emotional wounds, not weakness.

I’ve put together 6 practical and therapeutic tips to help you gently detach from unhealthy attachment while building a stronger, more secure sense of self.

Detachment isn’t about becoming cold.
It’s about learning to love without abandoning yourself. 💛

If this resonates, I hope it supports your healing journey.

Why people Overshare (And How to Stop Without Shutting Down) 💬💛

Do you ever feel like you’ve said too much after a conversation—and then replay every word in your head? You’re not alone. Psychologists say oversharing often comes from deeper emotional struggles, not just a talkative nature. Here’s why it happens:

1️⃣ Guilt & Shame – Sharing personal thoughts can feel connecting… until you regret it later.
2️⃣ Boundary Confusion – If healthy limits weren’t modeled growing up, it’s easy to cross others’ comfort zones without realizing it.
3️⃣ Discomfort With Silence – Quiet moments can feel tense, prompting people to fill the gap with too many words.
4️⃣ Fragile Self-Esteem – Sometimes oversharing is a hidden plea for validation—but it can backfire, leaving you feeling worse.
5️⃣ Fear of Rejection – Opening up too quickly can be a way to avoid feeling unloved or abandoned.
6️⃣ Unresolved Emotional Wounds – Deep pain can push someone to test whether others are “safe” to confide in.
7️⃣ Anxiety & Mental Health – Overthinking how others perceive us can make conversations feel overwhelming.
8️⃣ Misreading Vulnerability – Sharing everything at once can flood others emotionally, rather than building genuine intimacy.

✨ How to Share Mindfully:

Reflect or journal before socializing.

Pause before speaking—ask, “Does this serve the conversation?”

Listen as much as you talk—curiosity connects.

Consider context: “Would I share this with my boss or parent?”

Repair if needed: “I might’ve said too much earlier—sorry.”

Seek therapy if patterns persist—professional guidance helps.

💡 Dr. Wu reminds us: “You don’t have to prove your worth through words. People will like you for who you already are.”

Oversharing isn’t a flaw—it’s a signal. Mindful communication helps you connect without losing yourself. 🌱

In therapy, we often talk about the quieter forms of control — the ones that don’t show up as shouting or overt conflict, but as calm voices, polite language, and “neutral” tones that still leave you feeling small, dismissed, or replaceable.

Sometimes a person may present themselves as caring or reasonable, but the subtext is very different:
✨ your needs become “optional,”
✨ your boundaries become “inconvenient,”
✨ and their “concern” becomes a subtle way of keeping the upper hand.

Control isn’t always loud.
It can sound like:
– “I’m just trying to help.”
– “You’re being too emotional.”
– “It’s not a big deal.”
These phrases often translate into: “Your needs don’t matter — mine do.”

If you’ve ever felt someone smiling while slowly shutting the door on you, or sensed a “neutral” tone that somehow pushes you out of your own story, you’re not imagining it.
Manipulation can come dressed as kindness.
Dominance can come wrapped in calmness.

Your body often recognizes these dynamics long before your mind does.

If something inside you whispers, “This doesn’t feel right,” that inner voice deserves attention — not dismissal.

In healing work, we learn to trust these subtle perceptions, to honor our needs without apology, and to reclaim our place in the narrative.

✨ You are not replaceable.
✨ Your needs are not too much.
✨ And your intuition is a valid form of wisdom.

If this resonates, you’re not alone — and there is support for navigating these relational dynamics with clarity and self-respect.

Men who avoid conflict often:

• respond late
• give general or vague answers
• don’t pick a side
• don’t address your feelings directly
• smooth things over on the surface
• hope everything settles on its own

Avoidance isn’t always about not caring—sometimes it’s about not knowing how to handle emotional tension, or fearing they’ll make things worse.

And yes, women can do this too.
Conflict avoidance isn’t gender-specific; it’s a coping style. Some women shut down, detach, or “play nice” to keep the peace even when they’re hurting inside.

Healthy relationships aren’t built on avoiding conflict—they’re built on learning how to face it with honesty, patience, and emotional courage.

🌿 On Deflection, Accountability & Spiritual Bypass 🌿

Sometimes people deflect, avoid responsibility, or use spiritual language as a way to bypass accountability. Phrases like “God is in charge” or “just sit with it” can feel peaceful on the surface—but often they shift the responsibility of clarity entirely onto you.

Here’s the thing: you do not need to educate anyone, convince them, or wait for validation of your truth. Some people simply cannot meet you at the level of clarity and responsibility you require—and that’s not your burden to fix.

Sending a message in the hope of being “understood” can unintentionally reopen a dynamic that is already complete. Silence in this context is not suppression—it is completion, integration, and self-sovereignty.

Your truth stands on its own. Your energy, boundaries, and clarity are enough. Trust that letting go is often the most powerful statement you can make.

✨ Remember: Your peace is your authority. Protect it. Honor it.

🌿 Unlock the Power of Your Vocal & Sacral Chakras 🌿

As a holistic therapist, herbalist, and yoga teacher, I’ve explored the deep connection between our energy centers and our creative, emotional, and professional lives.

The vocal chakra (Vishuddha) isn’t just about speaking—it’s intimately linked to your sensual and sexual energy, creativity, and your ability to truly listen with clarity and intent. When balanced, it enhances your passion, drive, and communication skills, allowing you to express your thoughts and emotions fully.

Conversely, when this chakra is blocked or out of balance, it can hinder self-expression, creativity, and even your ability to form meaningful relationships. Learning to harmonize your sacral and vocal chakras empowers you to alchemize sexual energy into creative expression, aligning more deeply with your life’s purpose and professional calling.

I’ve written a 10-page article diving deeper into this topic, exploring practical ways to balance these energy centers and unlock your creative and emotional potential.

ABOUT AINÚ

Dearest reader. If you’ve found your way to this page, it probably means I’ve caught your curiosity somehow. Good! You may be wondering what ‘Ainú’ means and who is Ainú? Apart from my work as a clinical psychologist, where I’m used to work with people through verbal and mental pathway exploration, I also make space for the non-verbal. Ainú is the meaning for this ‘space’. That which can’t be or won’t be expressed verbally, but which moves from within, or ‘Ainú’ the meaning of the ‘soul’, the movement within the breath, within each inhale and exhale. A lot of this work happens subconsciously and has a more ‘mysterious’ aspect to it. Since a lot of memory goes through the body and is not necessarily always met consciously, opening up spaces for this ‘gaps’ in awareness can make room for great energy shifts to happen. Something which is often described as ‘awakenings’ of enlightenment within the somewhat ‘more spiritual’ communities. The work can be applied through all kinds of methods. Most common in my arsenal right now are the intent and use of non-violent communication or as some like to call it ‘connecting communication’, yoga asana, breathwork excercices and laying hands above or on the body. But also voice therapy, musical and/or art excercices. In reality, life knows no limits to express itself... All depends on what you’ll need at the present moment. As someone who has undergone various forms and methods of ‘healing’ of her own, I agree to the understanding that healing doesn’t submiss itself to one way or one set of theories only. A variety of intentions can be met through the use of the most complex and evidence-based machinery to the most simple offerings, such as a smile or a leaf falling from a tree. From a mental point of view the ‘unseen’ is something dark, which may be scary. But in truth, it’s never the dark we fear. It is our light! Wanna join me in a meet-up? I’ll be gladly to work with you and see how we can collaborate together! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfoqELZWcp8) Best wishes! Lycia AINÚ
