A tincture is a liquid solvent containing the properties of a soluble ingredient. The ingredients may be herbs, flowers, roots, bark, etc. Tinctures are meant to be dosed using a dropper. Since the liquid becomes very concentrated with the properties of the herbs, only small doses may be needed. Herbs can be infused into a tincture by placing the dried herbs in 80 + proof grain alcohol or vegetable glycerin. Set the jar aside in a cool, dark, and dry area for at least a month. The biomass can then be separated from the liquid using a strainer and cheese cloth, leaving its active constituents extracted densely in the liquid. The dosing of the tincture is measured in small drops. Here is an example of a jar being used to extract the properties of kava kava root. ~Autumn
